Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

We chose to research the effect of wound care given using clean technique compared to sterile technique. According to the US Center for Disease Control, nearly 1.7 million patients suffer from hospital-acquired infections and more than 98,000 of these patients die every year (Haque, et al., 2018). Due to this frightening statistic, we wanted to further understand and discover if using a certain technique when caring for wounds plays a major role in preventing complications, such as infections. We chose our topic based on our learning experiences in clinical and the classroom setting. We then found credible sources from medical …

The Impact Of Nursing Hand Off Reports, Bobbie Umberger, Selena Carrera

Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

We will be evaluating and comparing different types of nursing handoff reports, such as verbal versus bedside. We researched different research articles and studies that compared bedside handoff reports to verbal handoff reports. These studies analyzed the effect on patients, such as safety and satisfaction, from the type of handoff report. In our research, we compared the advantages and disadvantages of verbal and bedside reports and found strategies to improve handover reports. From this information it was concluded that the bedside report is more effective than a verbal report for the patient and nurse.

Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

The COVID19 pandemic has generated rumors and conspiracy theories: -Origin of the virus, its modes of transmission, the options for preventing and treating it, and the actions governments have taken (Vraga & Jacobsen, 2020). Which is more effective: cloth face masks or neck gaiters. Gaiter masks fit very loosely around the mouth and nose. According to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, your mask should fully cover your nose and chin: preventing breathing in any droplets (Schive, 2020). Masks need to be tightly woven; you cannot see the individual fibers when holding it up to the light (Schive, 2020). Masks should be …

Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

The research question that is being asked is, are newborns, who are delivered vaginally, that have their umbilical cord clamped immediately after birth at a disadvantage for improved health benefits compared to newborns who received delayed cord clamping? Delayed cord clamping is a procedure performed after the baby is born in which healthcare providers delay clamping the umbilical cord in order to allow blood from the placenta to be transferred into the newborn. Effectiveness Of Epipen And Its Alternativesâ , Rebecca Anderson, Emma Sanford

Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

The purpose of this project was to compare the effectiveness of the EpiPen and its alternatives. Epipens are the first-line treatment for systemic allergic reactions. The pharmaceutical company Mylan first came into existence in 1961, distributing medical and health products to medical professionals with the goal of providing access to affordable medicine. Epipens now-a-days can cost anywhere from $650-$700, while alternatives like Symjepi cost around $200, Adrenaclick is about $500 and Auvi- Q is around $5,000 for a twin pack but can be free with insurance . For many women, menopause is a topic that is not discussed until they reach the age of 45 and begin to experience symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. Because of the taboo associated with menstrual cycles and female reproductive health, many women suffer in silence and are not aware of the various treatment options that are available to aid with the subsidence of their symptoms. These various treatment options range from medications such as hormone-replacement therapies, vitamin and mineral supplements, and changes in diet and exercise. The purpose of this research is to discuss how patient education can benefit patient health outcomes. Patient education involves helping patients to gain a better understanding of their condition, procedures, and how lifestyle choices can impact their health. There are many ways in which a patient can be educated. This includes discussions with the healthcare team and the use of other materials such as pamphlets, group classes, or videos. Do Adults With Bacterial Infections Develop Less Of An Antibiotic Resistance With Iv Antibiotics Than With Oral Antibiotics After A Full Course Of Treatment?, Navvy Stevens, Taylor-Erin Evitts

Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

This study was conducted in order to discover if patients develop less of an antibiotic resistance when going through intravenous antibiotics, compared to using oral antibiotics. This concept was created due to the fact that many people that are prescribed oral antibiotics, do not finish the entire prescribed amount. When this occurs, it gives the bacteria that the antibiotics were trying to get rid of, have the chance to adapt and become resistant to the particular antibiotic. By discovering the percentage of people who were prescribed antibiotics that never finished a round of them, it aids in narrowing down what …
