Hyperoxemia Education To Nurses To Increase The Adherence To Oxygen Weaning Goals In Inpatient Copd Patients., Katherine Ellingson May 2023

Hyperoxemia Education To Nurses To Increase The Adherence To Oxygen Weaning Goals In Inpatient Copd Patients., Katherine Ellingson

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Hyperoxemia in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) are at risk for increased hospital stay, mechanical ventilation, and increased risk of death. Literature supports that establishing increased education to nursing staff on the risks of hypoxemia to increase adherence to oxygen weaning protocols has the potential to improve future practice. Oxygen weaning protocols are often not followed for concern of patient care. Nurses may believe to be helping patients when increasing oxygen, when they could actually be potentially harming them. Increased education on hypoxemia in COPD patients for the nursing staff will assist them to feeling …

The Impact Of An Escape Room Simulation On Confidence And Competence In Nursing Student’S Identification Of Critical Changes In Patients: A Mixed-Method Approach, Kristy Schmaldinst

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Background The novice nurse takes time to show competency and confidence when implementing the new skills learned throughout their time in nursing school. With the increasing complexities of the healthcare system in the United States, it is necessary to ensure graduates are adequately prepared to handle critical situations. However, the ability of novice nurses to recognize critical changes in patients continues to be a hurdle that nursing faculty are attempting to address.

Objectives The objectives of this project were to explore the impact of an escape room simulation on student’s confidence and competence in recognizing critical changes in patients.

Heart Failure Knowledge Among Cnas In A Skilled Nursing Facility: A Pilot Project, Amanda Mcdannald May 2019

Heart Failure Knowledge Among Cnas In A Skilled Nursing Facility: A Pilot Project, Amanda Mcdannald

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Heart failure (HF) is one of the leading causes of hospitalization among patients over the age of 65 years. Many are transitioned to skilled nursing facilities (SNF) following hospital discharge. HF-specific SNF staff education was designed for early detection of changes and improved management of this patient population. Computer-based education modules and hands on skill demonstration stations were created to provide basic HF knowledge and specific guideline recommended care measures for the SNF environment. A pretest, post-test, and skill demonstration were implemented and included weight assessment, application of compression stockings, volume status monitoring, and low sodium diet recommendations. Pretest scores …
