Advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy includes a group of specialized procedures and interventions that are being performed more frequently with little attention given to a patient’s preprocedural anxiety issues. Preprocedural anxiety is an anticipated problem with any surgery or invasive procedure and if sustained or experienced excessively, is associated with negative clinical factors and complications.

PURPOSE: To provide education on high suicide rates within the healthcare community, screen providers for suicide risk factors, and disseminate mental health resources at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center (UKCMC). Background: Acute care nursing staff have recently faced increasing rates of anxiety, stress, emotional exhaustion, and burnout. Nursing burnout is directly linked to patient outcomes, nurse retention, and the resilience of our nurses. Therefore, it is in the best interest of hospital organizations to focus efforts on the well-being of the nursing workforce. A recent innovative technology to prevent burnout teaches mindfulness through the utilization of smartphone applications.
