There are inconsistencies in treating inpatients with community acquired pneumonia (CAP) and providing adequate post discharge follow-up contributing to significant hospital re-admission rates and increased healthcare costs. Will the use of a pneumonia pathway decrease hospital re-admissions and healthcare costs? Our null hypothesis for this study was that the use of a pneumonia care pathway will have no significant effect on hospital readmission rates.

High priority index questions from HCAHPS and Press Ganey surveys, including overall ratings, communication with RNs and MDs, hospital environment and response to concerns and complaints, were targeted for improvement. With the introduction of tablet technology, faculty began asking questions about when, where, and how tables might enhance curriculum opportunities for student learning and faculty teaching strategies beyond their use as personal digital devices and smartphones (Swan, Smith, Frisby, Shaffer, & Hason-Zalot). Personal digital devices (PDDs), including smartphones, had been used by nursing students for the past five years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how tablet technology affected student and faculty teaching-learning processes and outcomes in an accelerated, pre-licensure baccalaureate nursing program.

Warfarin has been a mainstay of therapy for treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolic disease (VTED) and prevention of stroke and systemic embolism for over 50 years. Recent FDA approval of several novel oral anticoagulants has offered more extensive treatment options for management of these disease states.

The availability of the novel anticoagulants offers an attractive alternative to warfarin therapy for patients due to their convenience of use. In comparison to warfarin, dabigatran, rivaroxaban and apixaban offer: - a fixed dosage regimen

Theresa “Tootsie” Smoder, better known as my grandma, always seemed larger than life. She bore eight children in nine years (The “Crazy Eights”), raised them almost single-handedly when her husband died and managed a 160 acre farm. Doing whatever it took to create security and stability for her family, Tootsie worked multiple jobs to feed her brood. She was a social butterfly who always tended to others and modeled the value of caring throughout her life.
