Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most prevalent sexually-transmitted infection in the U.S. Specific types have been linked to 70% of cervical cancers, 90% of genital warts, 65% of vulvar cancers, 35% of penile cancers, and 70% of head and neck cancers (Markowitz et al., 2014). According to the CDC, the most effective way to prevent HPV- associated infections and HPV-related cancer is through vaccination. The purpose of this study was to determine how knowledgeable college students ages 18-26 years are of HPV, HPV vaccine, and vaccination compliance among these students. Neural tube defects (NTDs) are among the most serious birth defects affecting approximately 4,000 pregnancies in the United States each year. More than one third of these pregnancies are spontaneously aborted. Thus, about 2,500 infants per year are born with an NTD. Research spanning two decades has shown that women who consume folic acid- containing supplements have 50% to 75% fewer infants with NTDs than women who do not consume folic acid supplements. Even though there has been a significant decrease in the number of adults who smoke in recent years, adolescents are initiating the habit at an alarming rate. Cigarette smoking is the number one preventable cause of death and illness in the United States. The purpose of this quasi­ experiment al pretest/posttest study was to explore the knowledge levels and attitudes of college students in Northeast Mississippi regarding cigarette smoking. This was a descriptive study designed to determine the effect of Validation Fantasy (VF) on the attitudes of nursing students toward the elderly and their willingness to work with elderly clients.
