Background: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been shown to be associated with poor health outcomes, and children living in poverty are more likely to experience ACEs. Our objective was to estimate the association between spending on benefit programs and cumulative exposure to ACEs among children.

Methods: This cross-sectional study examined state and federal spending, at the state-level, on 5 categories of public benefit programs: cash, housing, and in-kind assistance; housing infrastructure; childcare assistance; refundable Earned Income Tax Credit; and Medical Assistance Programs (e.g., Medicaid). Background: The field of pharmacogenomics (identification of biomarkers regarding drug metabolism and activity to inform precision prescribing) is rapidly advancing for individuals on the autism spectrum, but these advancements are not equitably benefiting all communities. Specifically, utilization data suggests that Black families may be less likely to have access to clinical precision medicine supports. Moreover, historic underrepresentation of African-descended populations in genetic reference samples means that emerging research on precision medicine will retain these biases and perpetuate disparities in downstream clinical benefit. Improving Adolescent Sexual And Mental Health Care Access Through Community Outreach, Anna Bitely

Background: In the pandemic’s wake, marginalized adolescents face exacerbated barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and mental health (MH) care. Telemedicine access for SRH/MH care has increased, but disparities remain.

Objectives/Goal: We assessed the impact of our intervention (AccessKCTeen) on care access.

Methods/Design: We trained four peer leaders to share SRH/MH information and mobilize their networks to attend AccessKCTeen outreach events. We partnered with community organizations to host events where we demonstrated telemedicine, shared resources for SRH/MH care, and discussed and distributed free health items (e.g. emergency contraception (EC), condoms, pregnancy tests, hand sanitizer). Background: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are at least 3 times more likely to attempt suicide than those without ASD (Kolves et al., 2021; Richa et al., 2014). Core features of ASD (e.g., deficits in communicating emotions, difficulty with change) are associated with known suicide attempt antecedent events, and rates of co-occurring mental health concerns (e.g., depression) that increase suicide risk are higher than in the general population (Richa et al., 2014). However, mental health clinicians perceive patients with ASD to be at lower risk for suicide, and report lower self-efficacy in screening in this population (Jager-Hyman et al., …

Background: Physicians are perceived by society to have a duty to both improve the health of their individual patients and the wellbeing of society as a whole. The perceived social and professional obligation of physicians to engage in advocacy work is often implied yet illdefined with little formal training or official supports. Many physicians feel their training and practice environment do not support increased engagement in advocacy. In order to promote the idea that advocacy is an integral aspect of modern practice, it is necessary to further characterize its definition and scope.
