The Effect Of Graft Selection On Patients’ Subjective Readiness To Return To Sport After Acl Reconstruction, Adeeb Hanna, William Johns, Emma Johnson, Bryson Kelmer, Gabriel Onor, Kevin Freedman, Christopher Dodson, Michael Ciccotti

Rowan-Virtua Research Day

Background: Patients who undergo ACL reconstruction with allografts may have an easier functional recovery compared to autograft patients. This is due to decreased donor site morbidity and less muscle atrophy compared to autograft patients. This “easier” recovery may be perceived by patients and may result in a subjective earlier readiness for return to sports.

Hypothesis/Purpose: To determine if there is a difference in perceived readiness to return to sport (RTS) in the first year postoperative period between individuals who undergo ACL reconstruction utilizing bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) autografts or allografts.

Study Design: Prospective Cohort Study, Level II Methods: This was a …

Injury To The Posterior Horn Of The Lateral Meniscus From A Misplaced Tibial Tunnel For Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Case Report, Amar S Vadhera, Jonathan S Lee, Harsh Singh, Safa Gursoy, Kyle N Kunze, Nikhil N Verma, Jorge Chahla Nov 2022

Injury To The Posterior Horn Of The Lateral Meniscus From A Misplaced Tibial Tunnel For Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Case Report, Amar S Vadhera, Jonathan S Lee, Harsh Singh, Safa Gursoy, Kyle N Kunze, Nikhil N Verma, Jorge Chahla

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND Posterior meniscal root avulsions can cause meniscal extrusion, joint space narrowing, and progressive knee arthritis. Iatrogenic posterior meniscal root avulsions after malpositioning of the transtibial tunnels during anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction can account for poor long-term outcomes seen in some patients following ACL reconstruction. Therefore, correct transtibial tunnel placement during ACL reconstruction is essential to avoid iatrogenic meniscal damage. CASE REPORT A 32-year-old man presented with 1 year of right knee pain and instability following a non-contact twisting injury sustained while playing soccer. An ACL tear with no meniscal involvement was diagnosed at an outside institution. A double-bundle …

A Novel High Tibial Biplanar Osteotomy Technique For Simultaneous Coronal And Sagittal Correction: A Case Example, Ryan C. Price, Kathryn C. Helmig, Dustin L. Richter, Robert C. Schenck Jr Jun 2021

A Novel High Tibial Biplanar Osteotomy Technique For Simultaneous Coronal And Sagittal Correction: A Case Example, Ryan C. Price, Kathryn C. Helmig, Dustin L. Richter, Robert C. Schenck Jr

Western Journal of Orthopaedics

Medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) can provide symptom relief, improved ligamentous stability, and lower failure rates in patients with symptomatic medial knee osteoarthritis, ligament instability, and varus alignment after ligament reconstruction. It has been reported that correcting coronal plane abnormalities with a medial opening wedge HTO has resulted in altered posterior tibial slope angle (PTSA). We describe a 38-year-old woman with a history of severe polytrauma who presented with an anterior cruciate ligament tear in the setting of increased PTSA and a posterolateral corner injury with varus deformity of the knee. A medial biplanar HTO was performed using …

Side-By-Side Comparison Of 4-Strand Versus 5-Strand Hamstring Graft Diameters In Patients Undergoing Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction, Dustin L. Richter, Michael Hopson, Tony Pedri, Gehron P. Treme Jun 2020

Side-By-Side Comparison Of 4-Strand Versus 5-Strand Hamstring Graft Diameters In Patients Undergoing Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction, Dustin L. Richter, Michael Hopson, Tony Pedri, Gehron P. Treme

Western Journal of Orthopaedics

Background: Hamstring (HS) graft size is an independent risk factor in determining outcomes related to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Although anthropometric correlations with HS tendon size have been studied, a predictable association with resultant graft size has not been established. This study directly compares the difference in diameter between a 4-strand (4S) and 5-strand (5S) HS autograft in the same patient. Methods: A total of 31 consecutive patients undergoing ACLR with HS autograft were included in the study. The gracilis and semitendinosus tendons were harvested for each patient. The diameters and lengths of a standard 4S HS graft followed …

Effects Of Anaerobic Fatigue On The Tuck Jump Assessment Performance In Female Collegiate Club Athletes, Madison M. Vomacka, Nicole Bascelli, Monica Lininger Oct 2019

Effects Of Anaerobic Fatigue On The Tuck Jump Assessment Performance In Female Collegiate Club Athletes, Madison M. Vomacka, Nicole Bascelli, Monica Lininger

Journal of Sports Medicine and Allied Health Sciences: Official Journal of the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association

Purpose: To determine the impact of a fatigue trial on the scores and number of jumps in a Tuck Jump Assessment (TJA) in female collegiate club athletes. The TJA is a 10-second plyometric jumping assessment used to replicate sport and identify lower extremity landing patterns. Scores from the TJA are summed together and those who score a 6 or higher are suggested for intervention training. Methods: Sixteen female club athletes (age: 20.9+1.9 years, weight: 59.13+7.72kg, height: 64.56+2.63cm) completed the TJA twice, once before performing a Wingate protocol and then again after. A dependent sample t-test was performed to determine any …

Accuracy And Reliability Of Examiners’ Observations Of Pre-Practice Warm-Up And Fifa 11+ Injury Prevention Program Exercises, James R. Slauterbeck, Pamela M. Vacek, Rebecca Choquette, Tessa Kettelkamp, Autumn Reilly, Brandon Lentine, Bruce D. Beynnon Jan 2019

Accuracy And Reliability Of Examiners’ Observations Of Pre-Practice Warm-Up And Fifa 11+ Injury Prevention Program Exercises, James R. Slauterbeck, Pamela M. Vacek, Rebecca Choquette, Tessa Kettelkamp, Autumn Reilly, Brandon Lentine, Bruce D. Beynnon

UNM Orthopaedic Research Journal

Background: The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) 11+ is an injury prevention program that decreases the incidence of lower extremity injuries. The purpose of the current study was to understand what specific exercises prevented injury from occurring. We thus developed and tested a form to identify these exercises. We hypothesize that trained examiners could accurately and reliably use this form to identify and record individual exercises performed during preparticipation warm-up.

Methods: A repeated-measures study design was used in this investigation. After observing five prepractice warm-up videos obtained from multiple high schools, 11 examiners observed and recorded performed exercises at …
