Correlation Between Polypharmacy And Length Of Stay Geriatric Patient In Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital, Iswadi Tanzil, Nur Riviati, Irsan Saleh

Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia

Introduction. Geriatric patients have multipathological characteristics, low physiologic reserves, atypical clinical signs and symptoms, decreased functional status, and nutritional disturbances. This situation is a risk factor for polypharmacy. Polypharmacy is closely related to drug side effects, drug interactions, and patient compliance. Polypharmacy is thought to have a relationship with the length of stay in geriatric patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between polypharmacy and length of stay in geriatric patients at Moehammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Methods. Postoperative Outcomes Of Hip Fracture Surgery In Geriatric Patients On Clopidogrel Or Warfarin At The Time Of Surgery, Josh Locker, Elizabeth Lyden, Justin Siebler

Graduate Medical Education Research Journal

BACKGROUND: The purpose of our study is to evaluate if surgical intervention in the setting of an elevated INR or continued use of clopidogrel lead to elevated post-operative mortality and/or morbidity compared to INR reversal or surgical delay.

METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 1,007 patients age > 55 undergoing hip fracture fixation at our institution over a 10 year span. We placed patients into four groups based upon their anticoagulation status at the time of surgery. Descriptive statistics were utilized to evaluate for differences in mortality rates, blood loss, time to surgery, and wound complications.

RESULTS: Comorbid conditions occurred at a higher …

Several models of specialized geriatric care in the Emergency Department (ED) have been developed since the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) began accrediting geriatric EDs in 2018. There is considerable variability in terms of both design and efficacy in regard to screening older patients in the ED and determining proper interventions The John A. Hartford Foundation and Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) have developed the 4M Model for Creating Age-Friendly Health Systems which aims to provide high quality care to older patients by addressing four critical elements: Mentation, Mobility, Medication, What Matters. This article describes a screening tool for …
