Recurrent Trigger Finger In The Early Postoperative Period: A Case Report, Kavita T. Vakharia, Moheb S. Moneim

Postoperative complications of trigger finger, a type of tendon entrapment, are low, and there is little information regarding evaluation after a complication occurs. Recurrent trigger finger is a rare occurrence, but often requires additional procedures to relieve symptoms. Here we present a case of recurrent trigger finger in the immediate postoperative period after the patient developed a cyst distal to the A1 pulley and synovitis. The first procedure demonstrated a thickened and tight A1 pulley as well as synovitis around the tendon. The patient developed continued clicking and trigger symptoms distal to the A1 pulley at the level of the …
Sciatic Nerve Palsy After Operative Treatment Of Subtrochanteric Femur Fracture Resulting From Postoperative Hematoma: A Case Report, Tony G. Pedri, Gehron P. Treme
Sciatic Nerve Palsy After Operative Treatment Of Subtrochanteric Femur Fracture Resulting From Postoperative Hematoma: A Case Report, Tony G. Pedri, Gehron P. Treme

Treatment of subtrochanteric femur fractures can be difficult owing to high risk of complications. No cases of sciatic nerve palsy after hematoma following open reduction and intramedullary nailing of a subtrochanteric femur fracture have been reported. We describe a 28-yearold man who presented with a subtrochanteric fracture in the left femur after a motor-vehicle collision, in whom open reduction and intramedullary nailing led to an immediate postoperative hematoma and sciatic nerve palsy. Prompt diagnosis and early wound exploration resulted in complete resolution of the palsy at 1 month postoperatively. Our findings reinforce the importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment in …
Postoperative Complications In Patients With Trapeziometacarpal Joint Osteoarthritis Treated With Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty: Report Of Two Cases, Jessica A. Avila, Taylor H. Parnall, Ericka L. Charley, Lauren N. Mercer, Elizabeth A. Mikola, Deana M. Mercer

Osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint, specifically, of the thumb trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint, is a common condition in older women. Complications associated with surgical treatment range from transient tendinitis to wrist instability. We present two patients in whom complications developed after undergoing CMC arthroplasty. In one patient, rupture of the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) was noted postoperatively after using a combination of ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition with complete trapeziectomy. The second patient presented with a flexor pollicis longus (FPL) tendon that was tethered with sutures, in which surgical release of the entrapped FPL tendon led to successful treatment. In …
Postoperative Deep Vein Thrombosis And Pulmonary Embolism After Ankle Fusion In A Patient With Hemophilia A: A Case Report, Christopher P. Bankhead, Michael J. Hopson, Richard A. Miller
Postoperative Deep Vein Thrombosis And Pulmonary Embolism After Ankle Fusion In A Patient With Hemophilia A: A Case Report, Christopher P. Bankhead, Michael J. Hopson, Richard A. Miller
UNM Orthopaedic Research Journal
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and subsequent pulmonary embolism (PE) are uncommon postoperative complications of operative procedures for treating injuries of the foot and ankle. Because the disorder of hemophilia A prevents blood clotting and increases bleeding, patients with this condition have been even less likely to develop DVT and PE. We present a 36-year-old man with hemophilia A in whom operative ankle fusion for treating hemophilic arthropathy of the left ankle led to DVT and PE. After decreasing dosage of antihemophilic medication and administering enoxaparin, the symptoms improved and the patient was discharged from the hospital on postoperative day 5. …
