Background: Obesity and overweight represent significant global public health concerns. Young adolescents are in particular increasingly experiencing obesity and overweight due to their sedentary lifestyles, excessive electronic media use, and lack of physical activity (PA). This trend is linked to the development of non-communicable diseases in later life. Moreover, data regarding the lack of PA is available in Pakistan, but a gap exists in the comparative analysis of physical activity levels between rural and urban adolescents. Rural and urban areas exhibit distinctions in both geographical settings and technological advancements, potentially influencing the PA levels of their respective inhabitants.

Loss of bone and muscle mass often occurs in tandem, increasing the risk of fragility fractures. Whereas many drugs are approved for the treatment of bone loss, there are few treatments available for the concomitant loss of bone and muscle. Identification of a treatment to mitigate pathologic bone and muscle atrophy has the potential to impact countless populations and influence approaches for healthy aging. Bisphosphonates have emerged as a potential treatment for both bone and muscle loss in cellular, murine, and observational human studies. Binge eating disorder (BED) is a common condition in the general population and is more common in individuals with obesity. The later timing of food intake has been associated with an increase incidence of obesity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between circadian chronotype and BED in a population of individuals with obesity. The sample consists of a retrospective review of 170 subjects presenting to an obesity medicine clinic who had been clinically evaluated for BED and chronotype.

Background: The incidence of type 2 diabetes in patients below the age of 40 (early onset diabetes) is markedly on the rise and has been linked increased prevalence of risk factors such as the metabolic syndrome and family history of diabetes.

Objective: To determine the proportion of patients with type 2 diabetes at Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi (AKUHN) who have early onset type 2 diabetes and the association of age of onset with risk factors (family history of diabetes, obesity, waist circumference, hypertension, low HDL cholesterol and hypertriglyceridaemia) in this group of patients.
