Background

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, preventable and treatable non communicable disease that is characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation that is due to airway and/or alveolar abnormalities usually caused by significant exposure to noxious particles or gases and influenced by host factors including abnormal lung development. It is associated with a lot of risk factors such as smoking, biomass fuel use for cooking and air pollutants in general.

Background:

Chronic kidney disease affects 13.6% of adult people in Tanzania. Secondary hyperparathyroidism is associated with an increase in disability-adjusted life years, cardiovascular mortality, and all-cause mortality worldwide especially in patients on maintenance hemodialysis. Justification: In Tanzania, there is a lack of prevalence data of secondary hyperparathyroidism and the factors associated with it. Knowing the factors associated with it will help in the early screening of our patients and intervene early before its complications arise.

Prevalence of being overweight or obese is increasing rapidly and as a consequence developing countries are experiencing a double burden of malnutrition along with its complications. Unhealthy lifestyle habits contribute to the energy imbalance that causes being overweight, namely physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle and poor diet choices. Interventions targeted at identified lifestyle habits associated with obesity in a local setting may help reduce this burden especially in adolescents, who are a vulnerable to adapting poor lifestyle habits.
