Introduction. Paediatric pulmonary tuberculosis incidence was increasing, with many undetected cases. Antituberculosis regiments are known to be the treatment of choice for tuberculosis. Even though pulmonary resection for pulmonary tuberculosis has reduced in daily practice, it remains continues to play an important role in several advanced conditions and complications. Currently, there are no specific practical guidelines concerning surgical indications and approaches for pulmonary tuberculosis. We report a case with complicated primary paediatric pulmonary tuberculosis underwent resection and looking for the literature of the best evidence.

The aim of this best practice guideline (BPG) was to be a resource for anesthesia providers practicing with obese patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and to measure the knowledge of these providers. After dissemination of an executive summary to anesthesia providers in two hospitals in rural Mississippi, an anonymous online survey was provided via Qualtrics software for voluntary participation. The survey consisted of 10 questions. The data collection period was five weeks. Surgeons play a significant role in the opioid crisis. A standardized, multipronged analgesia protocol was implemented with the objective of providing adequate analgesia while reducing opioids after outpatient breast and anorectal surgery.

A prospective, pre- and post-intervention study was designed to demonstrate non-inferiority for patient-reported post-operative pain. The intervention included patient and provider education, and multimodal perioperative analgesic strategies including opioid rescue prescriptions.

We evaluated 266 procedures. After implementation of the STOP Narcotics protocol, average post-operative pain scores in the post-intervention groups was non-inferior compared to the pre-intervention groups [(2.0 vs 2.1/10, p = 0.40, breast procedures) and (2.8 vs …

This study aims to determine the frequency of perioperative hypertension and its types (pre, intra and post-operative) hypertension in patients admitted for surgical procedures. This was a cross-sectional study conducted between the years 2012-2013 at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi. Patients admitted for any surgical procedure during this time were included. Perioperative hypertension has been defined as systolic blood pressure of >140 mm Hg or a diastolic blood pressure of >90 mm Hg or whose blood pressure increased by 20% during surgery. Cerebral metastasis as an initial clinical presentation of prostate carcinoma is extremely rare. Usually, patients have widespread metastasis in the body before presenting with brain metastasis. In the absence of extensive metastasis, especially without bony metastasis, only brain metastasis is an unusual presentation of the disease. We report a case of a 59-years-old patient who presented with a lack of concentration and decreased vision. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain revealed a large right parietal-occipital space-occupying lesion. PURPOSE: To evaluate surgical outcomes and complications of cervical spine fractures in ankylosing spondylitis (CAS) patients who were treated using either the posterior (P) or combined approach (C).

OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE: Ankylosing spondylitis typically causes progressive spinal stiffness that makes patients susceptible to spinal fractures. CAS is a highly unstable condition. Purpose: To assess features and outcomes of Coats disease over 5-decades.

Methods: Retrospective review of Coats disease patients at a single center. Features and outcomes were compared based on decade of presentation.

Results: There were 351 patients with Coats disease. The presenting median age (6 years), male sex (84%), and unilaterality (100%) did not change per decade. Coats disease classification did not change per decade with Stage 1 (1%), Stage 2 (21%), Stage 3 (68%), Stage 4 (6%), and Stage 5 (1%). Proper visualization of the surgical field during any procedure is one of the most imperative elements of surgery. The tools used to obtain this goal come with their own set of risks. This report describes a patient who developed postoperative acalculous cholecystitis (PAC) after use of a Nathan liver retractor. PAC is a rare complication of urologic surgery and is often more severe than acalculous cholecystitis (AC), leading to significant morbidity.

Conclusions: Successful pregnancy outcomes have been reported in female liver recipients with a transplant-to-conception interval greater than or equal to 5 years. Long-term graft survival should be discussed with recipients as a component of preconception counseling. All transplant centers are encouraged to report pregnancies to the NTPR.

Introduction: Metastatic lesions to bone carry a poor prognosis. Bone lesions can be responsible for significant morbidity in patients, including pathologic or impending fractures that may require emergent surgical evaluation.

Objective: We evaluated the clinical and pathologic features associated with breast cancer patients with bone metastases who underwent surgery for pathologic or impending fractures.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of 20 breast cancer patients with bone metastases who underwent surgery from the Bone Biorepository Bank at Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center was performed. Fluorescence imaging is an emerging clinical technique for real-time intraoperative visualization of tumors and their boundaries. Though multiple fluorescent contrast agents are available in the basic sciences, few fluorescence agents are available for clinical use. Of the clinical fluorophores, delta aminolevulinic acid (5ALA) is unique for generating visible wavelength tumor-specific fluorescence. In 2017, 5ALA was FDA-approved for glioma surgery in the United States. Additionally, clinical studies suggest this agent may have utility in surgical subspecialties outside of neurosurgery. Data from dermatology, OB/GYN, urology, cardiothoracic surgery, and gastrointestinal surgery show 5ALA is helpful for intraoperative visualization of malignant tissues in multiple …
