Pharmacy and Wellness Review

Diabetes is an endocrine disease caused by deficiency or malfunction of insulin that results in high blood glucose levels and places patients at higher risk for a number of complications. This chronic disease is difficult to manage and affects millions of people in the United States, costing the health care system billions of dollars a year. Of a variety of antidiabetic agents used to control blood glucose, insulin is perhaps the most effective, but until recently it was only available in injectable form. A Case Series Hemichorea-Hemiballism Syndrome Related Tononketotic Hyperglycemia: A Challenge To Diagnostic Process, Laksmi Sasiarini, Rahmad Budianto, Ricky C. Tarigan

Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia

Diabetes mellitus is quite familiar to health-care personnel but occasionally presents with unusual manifestations. One of them is hemichorea-hemiballismus syndrome, a spectrum of involuntary, continuous non-patterned movement involving one side of the body which is related to nonketotic hyperglycemia in uncontrolled diabetes. Here we present two cases of nonketotic hyperglycemic diabetic patients who presented with the hemichorea-hemiballismus syndrome. First – a 57 years old woman was presented with involuntary, arrhythmic, and repetitive movement on the right arm and leg, accompanied by twitching on the right face for two weeks. She had an uncontrolled history of diabetes mellitus. The second- a …

Elevated Homeostatic Model Assessment Of Insulin Resistance Level Increases The Risk Of Acne, Stefani Nurhadi, Igaa Praharsini, Aagp Wiraguna

Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology & Venereology Indonesia

Background: Insulin resistance and high carbohydrate diets are currently considered to be influential in acne aetiology. Insulin is a hormone that does not only regulate the concentration of blood glucose but also affects the production of sebum and through the Insulin Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) receptor stimulates androgen synthesis which will increase the proliferation of keratinocytes duct and the production of sebum in acne of the pilosebaceous.

Methods: This is a cross sectional observational analytic study involving 38 acne patients and 38 controls. This study aims to determine whether the increase in Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance …
