Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) exerts pleiotropic effects on ventromedial nuclei (VMN) of the hypothalamus and its control of feeding and energy expenditure through the type I PAC1 receptor (PAC1R). However, the endogenous role of PAC1Rs in the VMN and the downstream signaling responsible for PACAP’s effects on energy balance are unknown. Numerous studies have revealed that PAC1Rs are coupled to both Gαs/adenylyl cyclase/protein kinase A (Gαs/AC/PKA) and Gαq/phospholipase C/protein kinase C (Gαq/PLC/PKC), while also undergoing trafficking following stimulation. To determine the endogenous role of PAC1Rs and downstream signaling that may explain PACAP’s pleiotropic effects, we used RNA interference …

Background/aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of tissues with multiple traumas, scarred pedicles, and medial scarring as a flap. Materials and methods: Forty-eight rats were randomly divided into four equal groups. The modified McFarlane flap was chosen as the flap model. In Group 1 (control), a dorsal skin flap was elevated and then sutured back into original position. In the other groups, a two-phase procedure was used. In Group 2 (pedicle incision), scar tissue was created with a skin incision at the prospective pedicle site of the flap and then sutured to its original site. …

Background/aim: Nonalcoholic fatty liver is one of the most common forms of liver disease and role of microRNAs (miRNAs) on this illness is currently unclear. It was aimed to evaluate the predictive role of circulating miR-33a and mir-200c on high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)-induced fatty liver and vitamin D3 supplementation-related hepatic changes. Materials and methods: Twenty-four rats were randomized into three groups: sham (n = 8), experimental fatty liver group (n = 8), and fatty liver + vitamin D3 supplementation group (n = 8). In the treatment group, 10 µg/kg/week of vitamin D3 was given by orogastric tube weekly for …
