Background/aim: Alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency is associated with several types of pathology, and the reported effects of mutations in the ATT-encoding gene vary worldwide. No Turkish study has yet appeared. We thus explored the AAT status of Turkish patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Materials and methods: This prospective cross-sectional study included outpatients and inpatients treated from June 2021 to June 2022. Serum AAT levels were checked, and dry blood samples were subjected to genetic analysis. Background/aim: The respiratory muscles of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exhibit structural and functional changes that can be evaluated and monitored by ultrasonography. Materials and methods: This single-center, prospective study was conducted in the emergency department (ED) of a tertiary care hospital over an eight-month period (September 2020-May 2021). Diaphragmatic excursions, end-expiratory thickness, and thickening fractions, as well as right and left intercostal muscle thicknesses, of all adult subjects manifesting COPD exacerbation, were assessed. This retrospective study aimed to examine the long-term results of individualized comprehensive outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with obstructive pulmonary disease. Background/aim: Our aim is to determine the caregiver burden of chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) patient's caregivers, and to determine whether there is a workday loss. Materials and methods: 252 COPD patients and their caregivers were included. Disease information of the patients were recorded and a questionnaire was applied. Socio-demographic characteristics of the caregivers were recorded and a questionnaire consisting of 24 questions including COPD disease, treatment and loss of working days, and the Zarit Scale were used. The aim of this study is to assess the influence of tiotropium treatment on airway inflammation and symptoms in stable COPD patients. To determine the effect of passive smoking on the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) among persons who spend a long time in cafes. Materials and methods: The study sample included 348 male smokers who were older than 40 years and spend a long time in cafes.
