Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The objective of the study was to evaluate the response, relapse, reproductive results and demographic features of the patients with endometrioid adenocancer (EAC) and endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN) who were treated with conservative treatment. This is the largest study when we consider the single center studies in this field. Materials and methods: In the current retrospective study, 38 patients (6 EAC, 31 EIN, 1 synchronous tumors of ovary and endometrium) were recruited. They were treated with progesterone products for their fertility desire and comorbidity. Reproductive results, response rates, and recurrence rates were calculated and survival analyses were performed. Results: …

Background/aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score on the prognosis in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Materials and methods: The present study was a retrospective study. The CONUT score was calculated based on serum albumin, total cholesterol and lymphocyte levels. This study included a total of 266 patients, 131 (49.2%) were female and 135 (50.8%) were male. The median follow-up period was 51 months (range: 1-190). Results: The median age was 64 years. The cut off CONUT was 1.5. There was a significant difference between patients with high …

Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal (Ecco2r) In Copd And Ards Patients Withsevere Hypercapnic Respiratory Failure. A Retrospective Case-Control Study, Volkan İnal, Serdar Efe Jan 2021

Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal (Ecco2r) In Copd And Ards Patients Withsevere Hypercapnic Respiratory Failure. A Retrospective Case-Control Study, Volkan İnal, Serdar Efe

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Treatment of severe hypercapnic respiratory failure (HRF) has some challenges in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), especially when lung protective ventilation (LPV) strategies are required. Extracorporeal CO2 removal (ECCO2R) therapy is an emerging option to manage hypercapnia while allowing LPV in these cases. However, further data on ECCO2R use is still needed to make clear recommendations. Materials and methods: This study was conducted on patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) between January 1st, 2016 to December 31st, 2019. The medical records were retrospectively scanned in institutional software database. Patients who …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: To investigate the utility of preoperative serum cancer antigen 125 (CA 125) levels in type 1 endometrial carcinoma (EC) as a marker for determining poor prognostic factors and survival. Material and methods: All patients with endometrial cancer, who had been treated between 2012 and 2020, were retrospectively reviewed, and finally, 256 patients with type 1 endometrium carcinoma were included in the study. The relationship between the clinicopathological characteristics, CA 125 level, and survival rates were analyzed. The cut-off value for the preoperative serum CA 125 level was defined as 16 IU/L. Results: The median serum CA 125 levels were …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: A proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) has been investigated as a prognostic marker in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients. However, there is no cut-off level for serum APRIL (sAPRIL) levels that predict time to treatment in CLL patients. Materials and methods: Between May and December 2012, 94 consecutive CLL patients and 25 healthy controls were assessed. sAPRIL levels were measured by ELISA. Demographic data and prognostic markers were obtained from the patients' files. Treatment-naïve patients were followed up for 6.5 years for any treatment need. Results: Patients were divided into 3 groups: Treatment-naïve (n = 47), chemotherapy receiving (n = 25), …

Background/aim: To investigate the risk factors for evisceration in a gynecological oncology population. The secondary aim was to evaluate the impact of evisceration on survival. Materials and methods: Inclusion criteria consisted of having had an elective surgery performed through a xiphoidopubic incision in our institution and having a gynecological malignancy based on pathology. A total of 198 patients were evaluated, 54 with evisceration and 144 without evisceration. Due to the widely varied prognosis of female genital cancers, the survival was analyzed on a homogenized group, including only 62 patients with primary advanced stage epithelial ovarian-tubal-peritoneal cancer. Results: The preoperative factors …

Results: The median age at ruxolitinib initiation was 62 (28-87) and 100 (56.8%) of all were diagnosed as PMF. Constitutional symptoms were observed in 84.7%. The median initiation dose of ruxolitinib was 30 mg (10-40). Dose change was made in 69 (39.2%) patients. Forty seven (35.6%) and 20 (15.2%) of 132 patients had hematological and nonhematological adverse events, respectively. The mean spleen sizes before and after …

Background/aim: To evaluate the pre and post-treatment heart rate and oxygen (O2 ) saturation values measured before, during and after 6MWT in children who received PAH-specific treatment and to determine the effect of these variables on prognosis. Materials and methods: This retrospective study included 29 patients who were diagnosed as PAH and treated. The transcutaneous O2 saturationand heart rate levels were recorded before the test: baseline (Sat0, HR0), at the end of the test: exercise (Sat1, HR1) and 5 min after the test: recovery (Sat2, HR2). The increase in heart rate was defined as HR1-HR0 and the decrease in saturation …
