The objective of this study was to investigate whether coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation affects M30 and heart-type fatty acid binding protein (h-FABP) levels in intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury-induced rats. We designed this study to evaluate the role of mean platelet volume (MPV) as a fibrosis marker in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). Materials and methods: The study was designed at Kayseri Education and Research Hospital. Ninety-five patients with CHC were enrolled retrospectively into the study. The control group comprised 33 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals. Hepatitis C virus-RNA level, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), bilirubin, prothrombin time (PT), platelet count (PC), serum albumin, histological activity index (HAI), liver fibrosis score (LFS), and MPV were obtained from the patients' files and a computerized database. To investigate right ventricular function using conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography in patients with coronary slow flow. Materials and methods: Twenty-two patients with slow coronary flow and 22 healthy subjects were included in the study. Right ventricular function was evaluated by conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography. Additionally, right ventricular global function was assessed by myocardial performance index. To investigate the effect of intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) pumps on upper extremity impairments in breast cancer-related lymphedema. Materials and methods: Twenty-five patients with lymphedema were randomized into 2 groups. For 3 weeks, the pneumatic compression group (n = 12) underwent a treatment program including skin care, compression bandage, exercise therapy, manual lymph drainage (MLD), and IPC. The control group (n = 13) participated in the same program, but without IPC. To explore the presence of ALS1 and HWP1 genes by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in Candida albicans strains. Materials and methods: By using the multiplex PCR method, the presence of agglutinin-like sequence 1 (ALS1) and hyphal wall protein 1 (HWP1) genes were investigated in 206 C. albicans strains that were isolated from various clinical samples. Phenotypic identification of slime formation by microplate and tube adherence tests was performed. To investigate inductive activity of formaldehyde (FA) on the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and level of nitric oxide (NO) in the liver of rats. To evaluate the reliability of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in diabetic patients with clinically suspected cardiomyopathy and to compare the consistency of CMR imaging with 2-dimensional echocardiography (2DE). Materials and methods: Twenty-one diabetic patients with clinically suspected cardiomyopathy were evaluated with CMR imaging and 2DE. Two observers for each modality performed the evaluation. Quantitative data (the ejection fraction, end-systolic volume, end-diastolic volume, left-ventricular mass index, and left-atrial volume index) were acquired from both observers. To evaluate the effects of Helicobacter pylori on cell proliferation and apoptosis in gastric cancer (GC) both at tumoral and nontumoral sites and in gastritis. Materials and methods: Biopsies from 96 patients (gastric cancer = 52, gastritis = 44) were examined immunohistochemically and histopathologically. Results: In H. pylori-positive GC patients the average proliferative index (PI) in tumor and nontumor sites was 40.7% and 24.8%, while in H. pylori-negative patients it was 32.9% and 17.8%, respectively. To investigate serum levels of ghrelin in pregnant women as a potential early marker for hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at Fatih University Hospital. Included in the study were 35 women with HG and 31 pregnant women without HG as a control group. To investigate the effect of carbonyl cyanide 3-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) on mitochondrial elimination in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. Materials and methods: C2C12 muscle cells stably expressing Mito-DsRed were treated with DMSO or CCCP at the doses of 10, 20, and 30 µM for 3, 6, and 24 h. After specific treatments, cells were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde and immunocytochemistry assays were performed using appropriate antibodies to evaluate mitochondrial morphology and autophagosome formation. This study investigates polyneuropathy in patients with unilateral diabetic foot ulcer by using electrophysiological methods and discusses whether electrophysiological parameters are predictive of diabetic foot ulcer development. Materials and methods: The study involved 330 women who had recently given birth in a hospital in 2007. Vitamin D deficiency is an important cause of secondary hyperparathyroidism. We aimed to investigate the effect of vitamin D levels on parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Materials and methods: We retrospectively chose 2226 patients who were admitted to our hospital’s general internal medicine department for various reasons and had both PTH and vitamin D tests on the same day. To be able to differentiate benign vertebral bone marrow lesions from malign lesions according to apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values, enabling quantitative assessment, and to determine the sensitivity and the specificity in differentiating benign and malign lesions according to the optimal cutoff ADC value. To evaluate the routine use of chromogenic media together with matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) in gastrointestinal infections caused by Aeromonas spp. as rapid, practical, cost-effective and reliable methods. Materials and methods: Between August 2007 and March 2012, a total of 13,194 stool specimens of patients were included in the study. To define the independent variables that affect the life spans of patients with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Materials and methods: This study was conducted in the neurosurgery clinic of Erciyes University's Faculty of Medicine, lasting from February 2000 to September 2006. A total of 98 patients were diagnosed with GBM after tumor resections. Patients' demographic, neurological, radiological, surgical, and clinical features and adjunct therapies were analyzed retrospectively. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed at the Ege University Faculty of Dentistry between December 2011 and January 2012.
