In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between genetic structure and daily dose requirement in patients under warfarin therapy presenting at our hospital. Materials and methods: A total of 80 patients (45 female and 35 male) aged between 29 and 80 years (mean age: 59.86 ± 14.46 years), using warfarin for at least 1 month and presenting at Atatürk University Medical Faculty Outpatient Clinic between May 2009 and May 2010, were included in the study. Analysis of CYP2C9 1075 A>C and CYP2C9 430 C>T polymorphisms were performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the reverse-hybridization method. …

The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of the estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) gene variants and their possible association with coronary artery disease (CAD) in Şanlıurfa province. Materials and methods: We used polymerase chain reaction and restriction enzyme digestion to determine the prevalence of the ESR1 gene (NM_001122742.1, GI: 2099): c.454-351 A>G (XbaI A>G) and c.454-397 T>C (PvuII T>C) polymorphisms in 100 healthy individuals and 80 angiographically confirmed CAD patients. Results: The body mass index (28.1 ± 5.4), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (126.1 ± 42 mg/dL), diabetes (n = 13), and hypertension (n = …

To determine if the functional Val108/158Met polymorphism causes a tendency toward alcohol addiction in Turkish cases. This polymorphism of the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene has been associated with many psychiatric disorders, as well as with alcoholism. Materials and methods: The allele and genotype associations of the Val108/158Met polymorphism in 110 Turkish alcoholics and 330 healthy subjects were investigated, constituting our study and control groups, by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Results: Distribution of the Met/Met genotype was 16.4% to 20.6% and frequency of the Met allele was 36.8% to 39.5% in the study group compared to the control group. The …
