Abstract:
Utilizing and integrating best evidence-based research to improve nursing care is a core responsibility of a nurse. Implementing best nursing practices leads to better patient outcomes and patient experiences. Through research, specific interventions that can reduce the incidence of delirium in critically ill patients were uncovered. Through utilization of theoretical framework, and multiple evidence-based research articles, a protocol was formed to initiate in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, KY. This protocol consists of a multi-component intervention plan to hopefully decrease incidence of ICU delirium.

Libraries Advancing Social Justice And Improving The Health Care Of The Lgbtqai+ Communities, Kayo Denda, Daniel Delmonaco, Victoria Wagner
New Librarianship Symposia Series: Fall 2021
LGBTQAI+ communities have faced discrimination in health care due to inadequate medical care, unfair health insurance policies and entrenched prejudice. To remedy this situation, many medical schools and hospitals have created co-curricular interventions, such as events and programs and new staff positions to address this issue. This librarian-led collaboration challenges and advances the discussion on comprehensive LGBTQAI+ health care and promotes deeper understanding of LGBTQAI+ communities by transforming health professionals’ cultural competency and compassionate health care practices towards equity and social justice.

Purpose: Costs for Preston Medical Library’s primary point-of-care (POC) clinical tool have increased to half of the acquisitions budget, while user affiliation data have not been provided to facilitate cost sharing. In response, user preferences for POC tools were analyzed to determine a viable, less expensive alternative to the current subscription.
Setting/Participants/Resources: Faculty and residents at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine (GSM), and other clinical staff at the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC), a 685-bed teaching hospital.

The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, which originated in Wuhan, China in December of 2019, has impacted nations all over the globe. Given the health disparities which existed within the United States prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, this pandemic continued to pose a significant challenge to the health of the public. The aims of this research study were twofold: (1) to analyze the incidence rates of COVID-19 among different racial and ethnic groups within the United States and (2) to describe the occurrence of diversity within medical texts. Throughout the year I have worked with a team analyzing transcripts of conversations with individuals with a cognitive and a sensory impairment to identify causes and patterns of communication breakdowns and repairs. This presentation describes trouble source repair (TSR) coding and how it is used to identify and analyze miscommunications and misunderstandings in conversations. In the future, this research will be used to identify patterns in conversation and external variables that often create communication breakdowns in order to improve care for persons living with dementia and a sensory impairment.
