The desire to compare COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS is understandable. The response to HIV provides an inspiring road map for how to save lives. For over four decades, starting in the early 1980s, activists, scientists, politicians and cultural producers have been working alongside one another resulting in life saving developments—and goals not yet achieved. Since the late 1990s, HIV has become a manageable chronic illness for those with access to life saving medicine, housing, food, and social support. Under-vaccination is a problem across the country, including influenza vaccination in Vergennes, VT. Members of the community at PMC - Primary Care Vergennes endorsed a few common reasons when declining the annual flu shot, noted by providers at the clinic. The project yielded two flyers for the office - one that addressed these common "myths" and another that addressed new considerations for influenza vaccination during the pandemic.

As fall approaches in 2020, it is even more important than previous years for patients to receive the influenza vaccine. The CDC believes that influenza and Covid-19 will both be spreading in the fall and winter of 2020. For this project, educational pages were designed for display in patient exam rooms at Milton Family Practice in Milton, Vermont. Information included the symptom overlap of Covid-19 and influenza, the distinct features of Covid-19, an epidemiological comparison of 2019 influenza statistics vs. Covid-19 statistics, and an emphasis on the importance of getting a flu shot to prevent a dangerous co-infection with both …
