Graduate medical education (GME) program directors receive a minimal amount of information from the undergraduate medical education (UME) programs regarding an intern’s specific level of competence. This project’s purpose was to align the local undergraduate competency-based medical education program objectives (MEPOs) and GME outcomes measured during intern year. Previous studies show the gap in communication between UME and GME exists due to a lack of a shared mental model regarding competency performance.^{1, 2}

The growing concern of pediatric mortality demands heightened preparedness in clinical settings, especially within intensive care units (ICUs). As respiratory-related admissions account for a substantial portion of pediatric illnesses, there is a pressing need to predict ICU mortality in these cases. This study based on data from 1188 patients, addresses this imperative using machine learning techniques and investigating different class balancing methods for pediatric ICU mortality prediction. This study employs the publicly accessible "Paediatric Intensive Care database" to train, validate, and test a machine learning model for predicting pediatric patient mortality. Patient access to diagnostic outpatient (OP) cardiac catheterization is limited by a perceived lack of capacity. Outpatient cardiac cath pts flow through the ACU for pre/post procedure care. Current schedule limits pts that may be scheduled through the ACU to two OP procedures/day. Cardiologists request the ability to schedule beyond the two procedures/day allowed. Significant variation in pre/postoperative care orders exist amongst cardiologists resulting in variability in length of stay. The SKMC Office of the Dean through its Graduate Medical Education (GME) Section identified a need for more comprehensive support for GME research efforts. Maine Health Bleeding Disorders is a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant funded Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) that serves patients with congenital bleeding disorders. We provide multidisciplinary specialty care throughout the lifespan which includes pediatric and adult hematologists, family nurse practitioners, nurses, physical therapists, social worker, dietitian, genetic counselor, and research coordinator. The condition may disrupt vasculature severe enough for permanent skin and tissue loss that can lead to impaired limb function due to severe scarring. Problem: No standardized process existed either to prevent or review these events at Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center prior to the study. To improve the quality of midwifery education and capacity for educators to update their competencies, a blended midwifery educator-specific continuous professional development (CPD) programme was designed with key stakeholders. BACKGROUND: Inpatient falls are affecting 1 million patients across the United States every year with 25% of fall resulting in injury. Approximately 25% of falls are preventable with accurate assessment and appropriate fall precaution interventions. According to the literature, obtaining an accurate fall risk assessment is the first step in inpatient fall prevention.

LOCAL PROBLEM: Patient falls increased on 2 cardiac stepdown units in a level III trauma center in Knoxville, Tennessee. BACKGROUND: Millions of people will die from antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections in the next 30 years. Retail health providers are pivotal in this global epidemiological problem.

LOCAL PROBLEM: Setting included 15 retail health clinics operated by Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Middle Tennessee. Project examined provider education, patient engagement, and commitment to antibiotic stewardship, components of the CDC's Core Elements of Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship framework. Specific aims were that providers would have a significant reduction in the percentage of antibiotics prescribed for viral illness over the study period.

BACKGROUND: Opioid related death is the leading cause of accidental death in adults younger than 50 years old in the United States (US) with approximately 130 opioid related deaths daily. Emergency department (ED) visits for a non-fatal overdose, the one-year mortality is 4.7-5.5%. Studies show increased access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) decrease morbidity and mortality related to OUD. Additionally, there is evidence that initiating MOUD in the ED increases engagement in outpatient follow up, also reducing morbidity and mortality associated with OUD.

The U.S. Hispanic population has the highest rate of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which is influenced by socio-economic status and language barriers. Current evidence suggests that the delivery of culturally-directed Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) with the use of an interpreter can reduce diabetes-associated complications.

Background: The hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) can have physiologic, psychologic, and financial sequelae. Children are at increased risk secondary to immature physiology, developmental differences, and severity of illness. Evidence suggests presence of medical devices exponentiates HAPI risk.

The building is over 150 years old and was a place of hope, failure, strife, and empathy. The asylum had a large impact on St. Louis and provided revolutionary outlooks, unique perspectives, and curious therapies.

BACKGROUND: Heart valve disease prevalence is expected to rapidly increase over the next twenty years. Aortic stenosis, the most common valvular disorder, is a significant cause of heart failure hospital admissions and high mortality if left untreated. Treatment options include surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and the more popular transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The rapid increase of TAVR procedures generates hospital bed capacity issues, and there is no recommendation defining the minimum length of stay (LOS) following TAVR.

METHODS: A pilot randomized controlled trial was conducted at our institution's simulation center with 32 first year medical students from a single medical institution. Participants were randomly divided into two equal groups and completed an educational module on the identification and pathophysiology of five common cardiac sounds. The control group utilized traditional education methods, while the interventional group incorporated multisensory stimuli. Afterwards, participants listened to randomly selected cardiac sounds and competency data was collected through a multiple-choice post-assessment in both groups. Mann-Whitney U test was used to analyze the data.

To increase community health knowledge, the El Paso Health Education and Awareness Team (EP-HEAT) was established at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. The Medical Student Run Clinic (MSRC) emphasizes community health care access. Promotores de salud (community health workers) increase health care awareness and connect predominantly underserved communities with resources. Surveys were conducted to determine how EP-HEAT and MSRC patients’ communication with promotores affected their access to health care and communication skills. Surveys demonstrated that 91% of EP-HEAT members agreed that working with promotores improved their communication ability.
