Objective: To assess the effectiveness of high-fidelity simulation-based medical education (HF-SBME) in teaching and learning respiratory clinical examination in medical students.
Study design: Quasi-experimental pilot study.
Place and duration of study: The Aga Khan University, Karachi, from November 2018 to January 2020. Methodology: This study was conducted amongst third year medical students at the University. Students were assigned to intervention (IG) or control groups (CG). Prompt and clear code team leader identification is vital in effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and pediatric trainees often have limited experience in these scenarios. This project sought to develop a tangible object that provided clear leader identification and assisted in code team management and simulated team training. A Code Team Leader Card (CTLC) was designed to provide clear leader identification while simultaneously providing a cognitive aid via integration of pediatric advanced life support (PALS) algorithms. Background: Radiology as compared to other fields of medicine has lagged, in incorporating modern training modalities such as gamification and simulation into its teaching curriculum.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate effectiveness of simulation-based teaching in collaboration with gamification. Bandura's conception of self-efficacy was used to provide qualitative assessment of participants' learning process through training event. Modified competitive game-based teaching methodology was utilized in an experimental study conducted for radiology residents. Introduction: Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to monitor emotions and use this knowledge to guide one’s thinking and actions. EI shapes the physician’s bedside manner and leads to a better doctor-patient relationship. Higher physician EI is inversely proportional to feelings of burnout and increases resiliency to the stresses of the profession. Given the increasing levels of physician burnout, there has been a call to incorporate the development of emotional intelligence into medical education. Objective: To determine perception of medical students about learning from integrated simulated clinical skill sessions as part of the undergraduate curriculum.
Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education, Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, from July 2018 to February 2019, and comprised first year medical students undertaking the Respiration and Circulation module of the curriculum.
