BACKGROUND: Anemia is a worldwide problem with iron deficiency being the most common cause. When anemia occurs in pregnancy, it increases the risk of adverse maternal, fetal, and postnatal outcomes. It induces preterm births and low birth weight (LBW) deliveries, long-term neurodevelopmental sequelae, and an increased risk of earlier onset of postnatal iron deficiency. BACKGROUND: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) decreases perinatal HIV transmission, but concerns exist regarding maternal and infant safety. We compared the incidence of congenital malformations and other adverse outcomes in pregnancies exposed to integrase inhibitor (INSTI) versus non-INSTI ART.

SETTING: Single-site review of all pregnancies among women living with HIV between 2008 and 2018.

METHODS: We used binomial family generalized estimating equations to model the relationship of congenital anomalies and pregnancy outcomes with exposure to INSTI or dolutegravir (DTG) versus non-INSTI ART.

BACKGROUND: Studies suggest that group-based well child care-a shared medical appointment where families come together as a group to receive pediatric primary care-increases patient-reported satisfaction and adherence to recommended care. Evidence supporting the use of group well child care for mothers with opioid use disorder, however, is lacking. The overall objective of the Child Healthcare at MATER Pediatric Study (CHAMPS) trial is to evaluate a group model of well child care for mothers with opioid use disorder and their children.

BACKGROUND: Maternal nutrition in preconception and early pregnancy influences fetal growth. Evidence for effects of prenatal maternal nutrition on early child development (ECD) in low-income and middle-income countries is limited.

OBJECTIVES: To examine impact of maternal nutrition supplementation initiated prior to or during pregnancy on ECD, and to examine potential association of postnatal growth with ECD domains.

DESIGN: Secondary analysis regarding the offspring of participants of a maternal multicountry, individually randomised trial.

SETTING: Rural Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guatemala, India and Pakistan.

Background: Current guidelines for pregnant women with substance use disorder advise prenatal maintenance of opioid agonist therapy with either buprenorphine or methadone. Despite this rise in prenatal opioid agonist therapy, little is known about the effect of prenatal buprenorphine on the neurobehavioral development of the child. This poses the question: does buprenorphine have a long-lasting effect on the central and peripheral nervous system development and behavior of children who were exposed prenatally?
