Preventing Childhood Obesity With Increased Education On Responsive Feeding Practices In Parents Of Newborns In A Community Health Center, Heather Burns

This project sought to increase healthcare providers’ responsive feeding education to parents of newborns at a community health center in Southeast Kansas. An educational offering was held for participating providers who provided health services throughout infancy. The offering reviewed the projects’ methodology, instruments, and intervention to increase responsive feeding education. Parents of newborns who met the inclusion criteria and who presented for an initial newborn visit with their healthcare provider were invited to participate. Parents completed surveys prior to receiving education at the initial appointment and the a follow-up survey at the infant’s two-month well child appointment to analyze parental …

Vaccinations are the most common painful needle procedure, with an estimated 12 billion injections given per year (CDC, 2019). The usual method for administration of vaccinations is through needle puncture, which is often painful. Children often report receiving a shot as one of the most feared and painful experiences (McMurtry et al., 2015). Postpartum depression (PPD) is depression that occurs in women following childbirth occurring during the postpartum period and affects 1 in 7 women (The United States Preventive Services Task Force, 2019). The American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP] (2019), recommends that pediatric healthcare providers utilize their position to screen for PPD. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to implement a PPD screening intervention within a pediatric healthcare setting using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). n the United States breastfeeding duration and exclusivity rates are not at ideal levels, therefore there is a need to examine existing interventions. The purpose of this systematic review was to examine the effects of education and support interventions during the third trimester, immediate postpartum, and the first six months of life on breastfeeding duration and exclusivity from six weeks to six months. Inclusion criteria were (a) randomized controlled trials or controlled clinical trials, (b) pregnant and/or postpartum women, (c) lactation education and support interventions, (d) measurement of breastfeeding outcomes from six weeks to six months, and (e) published between …
