Serological Survey Of The Infection Of Parainfluenzavirus Type 3 In Cattle In Malatya, Aykut Özdarendeli̇, Mehmet Kandi̇l Jan 2001

Serological Survey Of The Infection Of Parainfluenzavirus Type 3 In Cattle In Malatya, Aykut Özdarendeli̇, Mehmet Kandi̇l

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Cattle serum samples were examined for antibodies to parainfluenza type 3 (PI-3) virus using the hemaglutination-inhibition (HI) test. These sera were taken in autumn 1994 and spring 1995 from clinically healthy cattle in Malatya. Antibodies to PI-3 virus were detected in 897 out of 1000 cattle sera 89.7%. Reciprocal antibody titres to PI-3 virus in cattle ranged from 1:16 to 1:1024. It was determined that the proportion of seropositive sera in the cattle in the spring was higher than in the autumn.

Seroprevalance Of Theileria Annulata In Elazığ, Malatya And Tunceli Provinces, Müni̇r Aktaş, Murat Sevgi̇li̇, Nazi̇r Dumanli, K. Zafer Karaer, Ayşe Çakmak Jan 2001

Seroprevalance Of Theileria Annulata In Elazığ, Malatya And Tunceli Provinces, Müni̇r Aktaş, Murat Sevgi̇li̇, Nazi̇r Dumanli, K. Zafer Karaer, Ayşe Çakmak

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to determine the seroprevalance of Theileria annulata in non-vaccinated cattle in Elazığ, Malatya and Tunceli provinces between May 1997 and March 1998. Serum samples were collected from a total of 741 cattle in Elazığ, Malatya, Tunceli and vicinities. Serum antibodies against T. annulata were investigated by the Indirect Fluorescence Antibody (IFA) test. In addition, peripheral blood smears were prepared and examined under the microscope. The seroprevalance of Theileria annulata in Elazığ, Malatya and Tunceli provinces was 42.8%, 17.1% and 34.8%; piroplasm forms of Theileria annulata in these animals were 7%, 5.5% and 3%, respectively.

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Intussusception In A Cow, Murat Dabak, Emi̇ne Ünsaldi, Yusuf Gül Jan 2001

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Intussusception In A Cow, Murat Dabak, Emi̇ne Ünsaldi, Yusuf Gül

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

An 8-year-old cow admitted to the Veterinary Faculty, Internal Medicine Clinic (University of Fırat, Elazığ/TURKEY), was diagnosed with intussusception, and the diagnosis was confirmed by experimental laparotomy. Intussusception was corrected by enterectomy and intestinal anastomosis. Defecation on the day following the operation indicated normal intestinal flow. The animal was kept under observation for ten days after the operation, and had a full recovery.

Prevalence Of Rotavirus, Escherichia Coli K99 And O157:H7 In Healthy Dairy Cattle Herds In Van, Turkey, Mehmet Çabalar, Banur Boynukara, Ti̇mur Gülhan, İ. Hakki Eki̇n Jan 2001

Prevalence Of Rotavirus, Escherichia Coli K99 And O157:H7 In Healthy Dairy Cattle Herds In Van, Turkey, Mehmet Çabalar, Banur Boynukara, Ti̇mur Gülhan, İ. Hakki Eki̇n

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A survey was conducted to determine the prevalence of rotavirus, Escherichia coli K99 and O157:H7 in healthy dairy cattle herds in Van and environs, Turkey. Some of the cattle herds had a history of recurrent neonatal diarrhoea for previous years, and even while sampling was being done, some newborn calves were diarrhoeic. Three hundred and twelve faecal specimens from dairy cattle farms free of clinically apparent diarrhoea were tested both for the presence of rotaviruses by PAGE silver staining and for Escherichia coli K99 and O157:H7 by latex agglutination using specific antisera after the growth of each colony. The enteropathogenic …

Natural Infections Of Hyalommaspecies With Theileria Annulatain Malatya Region, Müni̇r Aktaş, Nazi̇r Dumanli

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to determine Hyalommaticks and the natural infections of Hyalommaspecies with Theileria annulata in cattle and their shelters in Malatya province between May 1998 and January 1999. Selected areas in Malatya province were visited to collect ticks from cows and their shelters during the study. Salivary glands of Hyalommaspecies were dissected and thin films were prepared. The nymphs collected from cattle and their shelters were kept at 26 °C and 85% relative humudity. Unfed adults of Hyalom- maspecies taken from engorged nymphs and collected from shelters were kept at 37°C and 85% relative humudity for at …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out in cattle in Elazığ, Malatya and Tunceli provinces between May 1997 and March 1998 to determine the seroprevalence of Babesia species. Serum samples were collected from a total of 741 cattle in Elazığ, Malatya, Tunceli and vicinities. Serum antibodies against Babesia bigemina, Babesia bovis and Babesia divergens were investigated by Indirect Fluorescence Antibody (IFA) test. In addition, peripheral blood smears were prepared and examined under a microscope. Antibodies were detected in 91 (31.9%) of 285 cattle against B. bigemina, in 4 (1.4%) against B. bovis and in 10 (3.5%) against B. divergens in Elazığ and …

Genetic Relationships Among Different Brown Swiss Cattle Herds In Turkey, Ceyhan Özbeyaz, Mehmet Ali̇ Yildiz, Handan Çamdevi̇ren Jan 2001

Genetic Relationships Among Different Brown Swiss Cattle Herds In Turkey, Ceyhan Özbeyaz, Mehmet Ali̇ Yildiz, Handan Çamdevi̇ren

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Average heterozygosity (h^-_s), F-statistics and genetic distance (d_ij) of different Brown Swiss cattle herds in Turkey (Malya, Konuklar and Anadolu State Farms, Eskişehir Sugar Factory Farm and Van Agriculture Secondary School Farm) were compared with each other by using Hb, Tf, Am-I, Am-II and Cp (monomorphic) loci. Average heterozygosity values were estimated to be 0.2371 ± 0.1076 to 0.2876 ± 0.1027 and there were no significant differences among herds. F-statistics F^~_IS_w, F^~_IT_w and F^~_ST_w were estimated to be 0.0601 (p

Vitamin A, Vitamin E And Selenium Levels In Blood And Milk Sera Of Cattle With Foot And Mouth Disease, Serdar Kizil, Ari̇f Altintaş

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to determine \beta-carotene, retinol (Vit A), selenium (Se) and \alpha-tocopherol (Vit E) levels in the sera of blood and milk from cattle with foot and mouth disease (FMD). A total of 120 blood sera and 22 milk sera were used for the analysis. \beta-carotene and Vit A, Se and Vit E levels were determined by spectrophotometer, fluorophotometer and HPLC respectively. Serum samples were obtained from 0-1 and 1-3-year-old cattle bred in public and state farms. Animals were grouped according to their sex, vaccination status and health or infection with FMD. Results of the biochemical …
