To evaluate the influence of zilpaterol hydrochloride (ZH) supplementation on growth performance, carcass traits, chemical characteristics of the longissimus muscle (LM), and plasma metabolites, 16 Mahabadi castrated goats (29.93 ± 1.84 kg) were individually fed a finishing diet without or with ZH supplementation dosed at 0.20 mg/kg BW daily. Zilpaterol was fed for 30 days with 3 days of withdrawal before harvest. Compared with the controls, ZH supplementation decreased dry matter intake and increased total weight gain, average daily gain, and gain for feed. Hot carcass weight, dressing percentage, and LM area were increased, but back fat thickness and kidney-pelvic …

Effects Of Fermented Cottonseed Meal On The Growth Performance, Apparent Digestibility, Carcass Traits, And Meat Composition In Yellow-Feathered Broilers, Cunxi Nie, Wenju Zhang, Wenxia Ge, Yongqiang Wang, Yangfeng Liu, Jiancheng Liu Jan 2015

Effects Of Fermented Cottonseed Meal On The Growth Performance, Apparent Digestibility, Carcass Traits, And Meat Composition In Yellow-Feathered Broilers, Cunxi Nie, Wenju Zhang, Wenxia Ge, Yongqiang Wang, Yangfeng Liu, Jiancheng Liu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effects of supplementing broilers' diets with fermented cottonseed meal (FCSM) on the broilers' performance, apparent digestibility, carcass traits, and meat composition were studied. A total of 180 yellow-feathered chickens of 21 days old were randomly divided into three groups (six replicates of 10 broilers each): 1) a control group (Con), 2) a treatment group of FCSM by Candida tropicalis (Ct), and 3) a treatment group of FCSM by C. Tropicalis plus Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Ct-Sc). Results showed that FCSM supplementation improved the average daily gain and gain-to-feed ratio from the 43rd to 64th and the 21st to 64th day, respectively …

Effects Of Probiotics, Oligosaccharides, And Berberine Combinationson Growth Performance Of Pigs, Guoge Fan, Juan Chang, Qingqiang Yin, Xiao Wang, Xiaowei Dang Jan 2015

Effects Of Probiotics, Oligosaccharides, And Berberine Combinationson Growth Performance Of Pigs, Guoge Fan, Juan Chang, Qingqiang Yin, Xiao Wang, Xiaowei Dang

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In order to find alternative feed additives to replace antibiotics for safe animal production, combinations of probiotics, oligosaccharides, and berberine were used in this study. Ninety 60-day-old pigs were assigned to 9 groups, with 10 pigs for each group. Group 1 was the control, group 2 had antibiotics added, and groups 3-9 had different levels of combinations added. The experimental period was 60 days. The results indicated that average daily gain and feed conversion ratio had no significant differences among the 9 groups (P > 0.05); however, the diarrhea rates in the control group and the high probiotic groups with low …
