Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A sixty-day feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary effective microorganisms (EM) Bokashi on organ histology, growth performance, and survival rate of freshwater crayfish Pontastacus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823). Bokashi serum and powder consisted of two major microorganisms as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens spp. plantarum and Lactobacillus plantarum. Four treatment groups were established in control (without bokashi), bokashi powder 1% and 5% supplemented to diets. Bokashi serum was added at a ratio of 0.01% (v/v) of the total volume of the tank water once a week into which there was a constant flow of fresh water at a flow rate …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution and density of IgG, vimentin, and CD45 in mouse placenta on the fourth, tenth, and seventeenth days of pregnancy. Strept avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex (streptABC) staining method was used. On the fourth day of pregnancy, the expression of IgG, vimentin, and CD45 was more intense around the uterine glands. On the tenth day, IgG, vimentin and CD45 positive cells were demonstrated in decidua basalis and mesometrial parietal trophoblast giant cells (P-TGCs) and mesometrial lymphocyte groups (MLAp) portions. The formation of the placenta was completed on the seventeenth day of pregnancy. The expression …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, the reproduction of Nemipterus randalli, one of the lessepsian fish catch from the Gulf of Antalya, Turkey was interpreted histologically. Regarding the fish used in this study (N = 1715), it is noteworthy to mention that male individuals are larger than females. The first sexual maturity in males was determined 17 cm TL and 60 g in BW, whereas 13 cm TL and 25 g BW in females. Females reached sexual maturity at age I+ and males at the age of II+. Seven different stages (O1-O7) were identified in oocyte maturation in the ovaries. The spawning time …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Sea pens or pennatulaceans (Phylum Cnidaria, Order Pennatulacea) are colonial marine octocorals that typically anchor themselves into soft sediment. They make large colonies from the intertidal zone down to the abyssal plain that provide an important structural habitat to other organisms. In the present study, the morphological and histological characteristics of the dominant species of Virgularia gustaviana, the dominant sea pen species of the Persian Gulf, were surveyed. Samples of V. gustaviana were collected along the coastal intertidal zone of the Soru and Bandar Abbas beaches, located at the northeast of the Persian Gulf. The sea pens were then fixed …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

It is important to know the morphological structure of the heart, which is a vital organ of the body, in detail. For this reason, we aimed to examine the morphological structure of the Saanen goat heart using light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A total of thirteen Saanen goat hearts were used in the study. To demonstrate the histological structure of the heart, samples taken from 9 hearts were fixed in 10% formaldehyde solution and blocked in paraffin after routine histological procedures. Histological staining was performed on the sections taken from the blocks. Four hearts were fixed in a 2.5% …

Effect Of Prebiotics On The Growth Performance, Haematological, Biochemical, Andhistological Parameters Of African Catfish (Clarias Gariepinus) In Recirculatingaquaculture System, Ercüment Genç, Münevver Ayçe Genç, Doğukan Kaya, Fai̇k Sertel Seçer, Abdolsaleh Qaranji̇ki̇, Derya Güroy

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) was investigated under controlled conditions in recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The experiment tested the effects of three different dietary prebiotics (FOS: fructooligosaccharide, GOS: galactooligosaccharide, and MOS: mannanoligosaccharide) in two levels (1 g/kg and 2 g/kg) and a control diet on the growth performance, survival rate, haematological and biochemical parameters, and small intestinal and liver histology of the African catfish. Better growth results were obtained in MOS (2 g/kg) supplementation, and there was a statistical difference (P < 0.05) between the MOS (2 g/kg) and the control group. Haematological parameters (erythrocyte sedimentation rate, red blood cell, white blood cell, lymphocyte, neutrophil, and glucose) were similar among all groups (P > 0.05) while some (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase enzymes, and monocyte) were significantly different (P < 0.05). The MOS (2 g/kg) group had longer villi length values than the control group. There was no difference among the groups in terms of small intestine histomorphology and liver tissues in fish. According to the results of this experiment, it can be said that MOS addition has a positive effect on growth parameters and could improve health conditions in Clarias gariepinus culture.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of local administration of bisphosphonate on bone formation in rats. Surgically created bone defects were evaluated at 12 weeks by histological examination after bisphosphonate administration. Fifteen Wistar rats that underwent surgery to create a bone defect at the right femur were divided in 3 groups: 2 experimental groups and a control group. The 1st experimental group received bisphosphonate as a single 1-mL dose into the bone …

Anatomical And Histological Studies Of Accessory Adrenal Nodules In Caspian Miniature Horses, Javad Ahmadpanahi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Microscopic and macroscopic structures of accessory adrenal nodules in Caspian miniature horses (5 males and 5 females) were studied. The accessory adrenal nodules were round or oval and yellow to red. Their maximum diameters varied from 0.1 to 0.5 cm. These nodules were found near the kidneys and adrenal glands, but they were in close contact with the adrenal gland. The accessory adrenal nodules were similar to the adrenal cortex microscopically, and from the outer layer to the inner layer they contained glomerulosa, intermedia, and fasciculata. The adrenal nodules were surrounded by a capsule of collagenous dense connective tissue as …
