Evaluating Healthcare Student Learning Performance During The Initial Year Of The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Case Study, Maria D. Garcia-Villarreal

Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a mass interruption to daily life lasting almost an entire academic year. Return to normalcy was hard won and phased over the following academic year. Neither time-period offered “traditional” learning experiences in academic institutions. The extent to which the operational shut-down affected academic institutions and their learners is just now beginning to be elucidated. Human resource development (HRD) is uniquely positioned to apply established and newly developed theories and applications to the study of this phenomenon. One particular case lends itself to observation. A major academic medical center launched a technology-driven state-of-the-art simulation education center mere …

Mentorship: A Powerful Tool For Ipg Success, Andrea Nelson

The Dissertation in Practice at Western University

Because Canada espouses principles of diversity and multiculturalism, many international pharmacy graduates (IPGs) immigrate to Canada expecting to find employment using skills for which they trained in their home country. Upon arrival, they often face challenges in credential recognition and licensure. Barriers include systemic discrimination, socio-psychological isolation, the precipitous decline in social status, and financial challenges of navigating the steps that bridge the training received in their home countries to the scopes of practice in Canada. The problem of practice (PoP) explored in this organizational improvement plan (OIP) focuses on the lack of opportunity that IPGs have to access clinical …

Research exhibits that between 70-75% of change initiatives fail and a major contributor to this trend is employee resistance. Although change can bring exciting growth and innovation, it can cause employees heightened stress and worsened physical and mental health outcomes. These effects are often amplified when organizations enact multiple change initiatives at once. These worsened outcomes are often a result of feelings of distress, anxiety, powerlessness, and apprehension and unknowns such as how one’s position will be affected, how operations will change, or how one fits into the change. Prior work on physician work engagement has been practitioner-based, never using the widely accepted validated Utrecht work engagement scale. Also, there has been little work on psychological contract fulfillment (PCF ) in …
