Mental health distress among healthcare providers (HCP) is a common problem, yet Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are consistently underutilized. Unmanaged workplace stress can lead to problems such as provider burnout and increased rates of turnover, which can result in decreased access to patient care. The purpose of this project was to increase awareness and utilization of EAP services by using the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle (PDSA) for quality improvement. The lack of preoperative warming has a direct relationship to perioperative hypothermia complications which include, but are not limited to: increased infection rate, coagulopathies, and increased myocardial oxygen consumption; all contributing to poor patient and facility outcomes. Implementation of an evidence-based educational module with visual aid can potentially increase the utilization of active warming techniques in the preoperative setting by perioperative staff. The DNP Project investigated barriers to preoperative warming by perioperative staff at a large teaching hospital in the southeastern United States. However, the cost of these positive effects does come at the expense of other factors. Along with the introduction of Clinical Provider Order Entry (CPOE) systems, organizations have experienced new possibilities for medication errors and risks to patient safety. In an effort to increase distribution rate and response rate of the patient satisfaction survey at this ASC, adjustments were made to current processes. These interventions included accentuating the option of a paper or emailed survey, providing pre-operative and post-operative response prompts, as well as adding a cover letter to the existing survey. The purpose of these interventions was to ensure a 100% distribution rate of the survey as well as to increase the response rate by 20%.

Introduction: The emergency department plays a critical role in the trajectory of in-hospital patient care. The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) along with the American College of Emergency Physicians (AECP) recommend early referral to palliative care for patients with life limiting illnesses that present to the emergency department. Research demonstrates that early palliative care consultations result in patient directed goals of care, improved symptom management, decreased length of stay, and reduced direct costs for inpatient hospitalizations.

Heart failure costs the United States 31 billion dollars each year, with much of those costs attributed to hospital admissions. Coordinating care across the health care continuum is a critical factor in improving heart failure care and reducing readmissions. An organizational assessment was conducted using the Burke and Litwin Causal Model of Organizational Performance and Change. The quality improvement project implemented a longitudinal plan of care (LPOC) across 10 hospitals and numerous ambulatory care sites at a large Midwestern health organization. Patient safety can be at risk during registered nurse handover, particularly when transitioning between high risk areas. According to The Joint Commission (2017), a standardized transition process should be implemented during patient handover. The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the effect of a standardized process with a cognitive aid on handover between a pediatric emergency department and an intensive care unit.
