Pain is “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage” (Treede, 2018). The phenomenon of pain is a personal and unique experience that many of the world’s population has experienced in some form or fashion throughout their lifetime. Neonates are exposed to many painful procedures and/or situations due to various medical ailments that may require a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission.
