An Overview Of The Health Delivery System In The State Of Mississippi, Cerlyn K. Ellis
An Overview Of The Health Delivery System In The State Of Mississippi, Cerlyn K. Ellis
Publications and Research
Imagine residing in a high-income country that doesn’t provide access to necessary healthcare. The state of Mississippi remains one of the poorest states in the United States. This has resulted in poor health outcomes and chronic access barriers. Residents of Mississippi ranks poorly in most health indicators, including Infectious Disease, Infant Mortality, Clinic Care, Obesity, Diabetes, and Premature Death.
With half of all rural hospitals in Mississippi threatened with closure, access and quality of care barriers will become more challenging to resolve. This comes partly as a result of the state largely governed by Republicans and the legislators refusing to …
Effective Communication: A Vital Skill In Healthcare, Allison Crabtree
Effective Communication: A Vital Skill In Healthcare, Allison Crabtree
Presentations, Proceedings & Performances
Members of the healthcare team conduct thousands of patient and peer interactions over the course of a career. The call to action from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report on Health Professions and Training stresses the importance of communication training for all members of the healthcare team. As with other healthcare procedures, communication skills can be learned and improved upon, but requires commitment and practice.
Given the wealth of evidence linking ineffective clinician-patient communication with increased malpractice risks, patient nonadherence, patient and clinician dissatisfaction, and poor patient health outcomes, the necessity of addressing communication skills deficits is of utmost importance
Why Doula Services Should Become An Essential Health Benefit In New York State, Jalisha Hanshaw, Amy White
Why Doula Services Should Become An Essential Health Benefit In New York State, Jalisha Hanshaw, Amy White
Publications and Research
Doulas are birth workers who assist expecting mothers through pregnancy, birth and postpartum using holistic techniques. Techniques include: prenatal yoga, birth affirmations and induction acupuncture. Doulas are underrated healthcare providers who deserve the same respect as clinical and non-clinical providers. Doulas are well-rounded alternative care providers who focus on mental, emotional, and physical well being of mothers. Also, they know special alternative medical techniques that prevent mothers from maternal mortality among other negative health outcomes. The amount of time and effort doulas perform with expecting mothers are equal or more than the average medical healthcare provider and should be a …
The Relationship Between Patient Satisfaction With Nursing Care And Nursing Job Satisfaction, Natalie Leriger
The Relationship Between Patient Satisfaction With Nursing Care And Nursing Job Satisfaction, Natalie Leriger
Scholar Week 2016 - present
Patient satisfaction, which has become a priority for hospitals and an indicator of quality, is a result of a patient’s perception of care. The consequences of not adequately providing high levels of patient satisfaction can be enormously costly to the greater healthcare system. The literature provided evidence that effective patient satisfaction is multifactorial; one key factor noted was nursing care. This study examined the relationship between patient satisfaction with nursing care and nursing job satisfaction. The researcher employed a quantitative correlational research design to find further evidence of this potential relationship. Ninety-eight patients participated in the study, as well as …
Estimating Variations In Metabolic Cost Within The Stride Cycle During Level And Uphill Walking, Arash Mohammadzadeh Gonabadi
Estimating Variations In Metabolic Cost Within The Stride Cycle During Level And Uphill Walking, Arash Mohammadzadeh Gonabadi
UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair
Indirect calorimetry provides the average cost of a stride cycle and prevents from identifying which part of the gait cycle causes increased metabolic cost in patients, however, recent simulation methods allow estimating the time profile of metabolic cost within the stride cycle. In this study, we compare the estimations of the time profile of the metabolic cost of two simulation methods for level and uphill walking. We used kinematic, kinetic and electromyography data from level and uphill walking (one participant) to estimate the time profiles of metabolic cost using the muscle-level metabolic model of Umberger using electromyography and kinematic data …
