Introduction: Participant attrition is a problem common to many longitudinal studies, and when it occurs nonrandomly, it can impact the study’s validity and generalizability. Identifying factors associated with attrition can help to detect bias and aid in developing targeted interventions to reduce attrition. Methods: Logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression models were constructed separately for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and other rheumatic diseases who participated in the FORWARD study between 1998 and 2018. The purpose of this study was to identify ideas about how occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals influence decision-makers on matters impacting occupational health and safety management systems. A modified nominal group technique was used that involved 67 participants in ten nominal groups and identified the most important ideas about how OSH professionals can influence workplace safety and health decision making. The research produced themes of communication, scientific, professionalism, leadership, adaptability, and business acumen that resulted in six domains of occupational safety and health professional influence.

The research conducted for this dissertation broadly explored the relationship between characteristics of healthcare organizations and quality and equity in pediatric healthcare. The first of the three studies identified characteristics of pediatric practices with high scores on measures of quality and patient experience using qualitative methods. The second study assessed whether the candidate characteristics identified in the first study were quantitatively associated with performance on quality measures using a statewide survey and publicly available quality data. In self-managed attendant services, disabled people organize and manage their own personal support services. ‘Self-managers’ take responsibility to recruit, hire, train and manage ‘attendants’ in order to have greater autonomy in attendant services, and in everyday life. Where the tasks associated with self-managing attendant services are often represented as responsibilities, this research begins with the assumption that these activities constitute work. Following critical disability studies and critical feminist scholarship, work is defined broadly as efforts made to organize and manage attendant services within self-managed models. This prospective cohort study evaluated the usual care pathway for patients referred to total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We measured healthcare resource use, costs and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) over the continuum of care. We also determined the proportion of inappropriate referrals and estimated wait times for initial surgical consultation and TKA. We found that two in five patients referred to specialty care were deemed inappropriate surgical candidates. Prior to referral, few conservative treatment options were tried, and many imaging tests ordered by referring providers were unjustified. Females between the ages of 18 and 24 consistently experience higher rates of sexual violence compared to females in any other age group (Sinozich & Langton, 2014). Approximately one in five college women experience sexual violence victimization (SVV; Krebs, Lindquist, Berzofsky, Shook-Sa & Peterson, 2016) during the academic year. Among undergraduate female students, 23.1% are victims of sexual violence due to physical force, violence or incapacitation (Cantor et al., 2015). Objective: To examine existing literature on mobile HIV testing units to determine if they have the potential to increase access to testing, treatment, and HIV education to decrease rates of HIV in South Africa.

Participants: Ten research articles evaluating the HIV intervention method of mobile HIV units in South Africa, including outcome measures.

Analysis: Systematic search of 87 articles from 2000 to 2018 and review of the 10 articles that met inclusion criteria.

LGBTQ youth are at a much higher risk for experiencing homelessness, victimization, abuse, and disconnection from social and medical services than their non-LGBTQ peers. This research paper uses a mixed-methods approach to identify the specific needs of unaccompanied LGBTQ youth in Worcester, Massachusetts, and how the youth service sector can better meet the needs of this population. Analysis of data from unaccompanied LGBTQ youth and the providers who serve them revealed a disconnect between service providers, and a lack of resources that accommodate the intersections of homelessness and LGBTQ identities. Adolescents often have little knowledge of the risks of sexual activity or lack sufficient sexual education to understand the consequences of engaging in these activity. As a result, . To aid with the lack of sexual education, I have developed a cultural component to the established sexual education curriculum for the students in health education at Everett Alvarez High School. 22 students took part in this research study. Overall, this research showed to have taught freshman students how much of their knowledge is based around other influences and this presentation improved their knowledge about sex education.

Maternal deaths have been one of the leading causes of deaths in sub-Saharan Africa. Delivering at an institution can prevent the majority of maternal deaths in developing countries. A national cross-sectional survey of Kenya was used to determine if the quality of antenatal care (ANC) provided to women is associated with their intention to deliver at the same facility. Multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression was used to examine this relationship. Quality of ANC variables assessed in this study were not significantly associated with women’s intention to deliver at the same facility. Mothers preferred to deliver at hospitals, rather than clinics/dispensaries. ANC …
