Introduction. The absence of home hospitalization (HH) of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) generates prolonged hospitalizations in closed care (CC). Objective: To compare the estimated cost of HH of high complexity CYSHCN versus the actual cost of the same patient in CC and its impact on hospital production. Methods: Descriptive and comparative study between costs of both hospitalization modalities of high complexity CYSHCN. From January to December 2016, non-oncological CYSHCN hospitalizations were registered by the Pediatric Service (PS) according to the Ministry of Health-Chile (MINSAL) norm. Mental disorders represent about 22% of the total burden of disease, and family support plays an important role in the length of hospitalization time in these patients. We described the family cohesion and the time of hospitalization in patients of the psychiatric service of the Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo National Hospital (H.N.A.A.A) during 2019. This is a cross-sectional descriptive census-type study, in which a questionnaire of 11 questions on family cohesion was applied. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected through a data collection form. 60 patients were surveyed, the median age was 50 years, the most frequent diagnosis was schizophrenia; most …

The University of Louisville Journal of Respiratory Infections

Background

Lockdown measures to control COVID-19 have exacerbated the poverty epidemic. We hypothesized that the synergistic interaction of COVID-19 and poverty epidemics favors the development of more severe forms of COVID-19 in the population living in poverty. To test this hypothesis, we assessed whether an ecological association exists between the geographic distribution of hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and markers of poverty in the city of Louisville, KY.

Methods

Using the geomasked home addresses of hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia in the city of Louisville, a kernel density heatmap was created. Kuldorff’s spatial scan statistic was used to calculate areas …
