Background: NAFLD can be associated with disease burden and stigma to patients and providers. Aims: To understand the disease burden and stigma related to NAFLD. Methods: Members of the Global NASH Council created two surveys (68-item patient and 41- items provider survey) about experiences and attitudes toward NAFLD and related terms. Results: The surveys were completed by 895 NAFLD patients (19 countries) and 629 providers (64% GI/hepatologists, 23 countries). Of all patients, 64% ever disclosed having NAFLD to family/friends; the main term used was “fatty liver” (82%) while “metabolic disease” or “MAFLD” were rarely used (never by 88%). 35% of …

Background: Pruritus—itching—is common with liver disease, but its prevalence and severity among US patients with chronic hepatitis B and C (HBV, HCV) are not well-documented. A subset of patients from the Chronic Hepatitis Cohort Study (CHeCS) were surveyed to examine pruritus prevalence, persistence, and management, and the impact on patients’ quality of life (QoL). Background: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is the second most common primary liver cancer with increasing rates of incidence and mortality. Surgical resection with negative margins and regional lymphadenectomy is the mainstay of the treatment for patients with resectable-iCCA. Because of its rarity and low resectability rate of iCCA, prognostic markers and outcomes of patients who undergo liver resection are not well defined. Abstract Background Gastrointestinal manifestations and hyperlipasemia commonly occur as part of novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), while data on acute pancreatitis is limited to case reports. We aimed to study the prevalence of hyperlipasemia and acute pancreatitis in a large inpatient cohort of COVID-19 patients and their impact on clinical outcomes. Methods Retrospective chart review of all hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 at an 8-hospital health system in Michigan, USA was performed between February 1,2020 through April 1,2020 with inclusion of patients with obtained lipase levels. Background: Various disorders can produce esophagitis. Lymphocytic esophagitis (LE) has emerged as another clinical entity responsible for esophagitis symptoms. Although increasingly reported pathologically, the clinical characteristics of LE have not been well characterized. Aims: The present study extends the clinicopathologic characterization of LE by comprehensive analysis of 30 affected patients and identifies specific clinical presentations significantly associated with LE. Methods: Thirty patients were identified from January 2000-December 2016 that satisfied diagnostic criteria for LE by lower esophageal biopsy; (1) high concentration of intraepithelial lymphocytes and (2) few granulocytes (ratio of lymphocytes:granulocytes >50:1).
