Objective: To determine whether postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) protocols lead to decreases in maternal morbidity and mortality.

Design: Systemic literature review.

Methods: The clinical question investigated is whether the implementation of PPH protocols has measurable impact on maternal morbidity and mortality. Searches were done through PubMed using the keywords: “maternal hemorrhage postpartum protocol.” Studies were eliminated if they were more than 10 years old, conducted outside the United States, published in a non-English language, used other animal subjects besides humans, used non-female subjects, if they did not answer the clinical question, or were review articles. A 32 year-old healthy pregnant patient with no significant past medical history who presented to the hospital for delivery of fetus status post intrauterine fetal death. Vaginal delivery with epidural placement was initially the mother’s preference. Fetal movement last felt 4 days prior. The patients H&P and laboratory findings revealed early stages DIC. Patient underwent Caesarean delivery with general anesthesia, the OB physician found the patient to have Couvelaire uterus, a form of placental abruption. The patient’s uterus was atonic requiring multiple units of blood products. Case assessed indications for epidural placement versus general anesthesia.

This study explored factors associated with perceived barriers to Pap smear testing among Chinese American women (CAW). A total of 121 CAW, ages 21–65, living in California and Nevada completed a self-report questionnaire. Data included demographics, prior screening behavior, risk factors, and perceived barriers to screening. Logistic regression models revealed that participants with less education, and who have never been screened were more likely to report (I) worry about getting a Pap smear, (II) expense of a Pap smear, and (III) not knowing where to get a Pap smear. Objective: We investigated the relationships of maternal circulating individual free fatty acids (FFA) with insulin resistance, insulin secretion and inflammatory biomarkers during mid-pregnancy.

Research design and methods: The data were drawn from a prospective cohort of generally healthy pregnant women (n=1368, African-American 36%, Hispanic 48%, Caucasian 16%) in Camden, NJ. We quantitatively determined 11 FFAs, seven cytokine/adipokine, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and C-peptide levels from the fasting blood samples that were collected at 16 weeks of gestation. Background

Although dysmenorrhea is not a life-threatening condition, it can cause a substantial burden on individuals and communities. There is no data on the prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Kuwait. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of dysmenorrhea among female public high-school students in Kuwait and investigate factors associated with dysmenorrhea.

Methods

A cross-sectional study using multistage cluster sampling with probability proportional to size method was conducted on 763 twelfth grade female public high-school students (aged 16–21 years).
