Descriptive Analysis Of Fall-Related Injuries Among Older Adults In Ontario, Nicolette Lappan
Descriptive Analysis Of Fall-Related Injuries Among Older Adults In Ontario, Nicolette Lappan
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalizations among older adults in Canada. The purpose of this study was to describe the characteristics of older adults who experienced fall-related injuries (FRIs) and the types of falls that caused them. We analyzed Ontario-wide secondary data from three databases (NACRS, DAD, RPDB) covering 2010-2014. Older adults (≥ 65 years) who visited emergency departments (ED) with FRIs were selected using ICD-10-CA codes for a fall and injury. Counts, measures of central tendency, and prevalence rates (crude, age- and sex-specific, age-standardized) were calculated. There were 304,610 (63.0% females) ED admissions (3,089 per 100,000 population) …
Epidemiology Of Upper Urinary Tract Stones And Stone Management In Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease, Vinusha Kalatharan
Epidemiology Of Upper Urinary Tract Stones And Stone Management In Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease, Vinusha Kalatharan
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Upper urinary tract stones are a major determinant of pain and is suggested to accelerate disease progression in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). For these reasons, stones should be optimally managed in patients with ADPKD. However, the kidney distortions may make managing stones challenging in patients with ADPKD. Understanding of the epidemiology of upper urinary tract stones and stone intervention and the outcomes of stone interventions is limited. The aim of this thesis is to understand the epidemiology of upper urinary tract stones and stone interventions and consequences of stone management in patients with ADPKD.

Multimorbidity Among Adult Primary Health Care Patients In Canada: Examining Multiple Chronic Diseases Using An Electronic Medical Record Database, Kathryn Nicholson
Multimorbidity Among Adult Primary Health Care Patients In Canada: Examining Multiple Chronic Diseases Using An Electronic Medical Record Database, Kathryn Nicholson
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Introduction: The coexistence of multiple chronic diseases within an individual, also known as multimorbidity, is an ongoing challenge for patients, caregivers and primary health care (PHC) providers. An enhanced understanding of the burden of multimorbidity in Canada is needed.
Objectives: This research had two main objectives. Objective One aimed to understand the prevalence of multimorbidity among adult PHC patients, as well as the patterns of unordered and ordered clusters of multiple chronic diseases. Objective Two aimed to determine the natural progression of multimorbidity over time, as well as the patient-, provider- and practice-level predictors of progressing into more complex clinical …
Epidemiology Of Fracture In Adults With Kidney Disease, Kyla L. Naylor
Epidemiology Of Fracture In Adults With Kidney Disease, Kyla L. Naylor
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Fractures are a global health concern, leading to morbidity and mortality. Individuals with reduced kidney function experience bone mineral metabolism changes which can increase fracture risk. Yet, there is little consensus on the fundamentals: prediction, incidence, risk factors, and screening of fractures in kidney disease patients. This thesis addressed these critical areas helping decrease the health burden of fracture in this unique population.
This research used data from the Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study (CaMos) to examine individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) (n=320). CaMos is a national longitudinal study designed to collect information on fractures. To examine kidney transplant recipients …
