The number of transgender individuals currently being prescribed cross-sex hormone replacement therapy (CSHRT) is currently at an all-time high, but the short- and long-term effects that those medications have upon the cardiovascular system remains largely unknown. To examine the effect that CSHRT has on the cardiovascular system, this review synthesizes the results of five different studies on CSHRT and cardiovascular outcomes in transgender individuals. The report also examines differences in cardiovascular outcomes associated with different dosages and preparations of CSHRT. Purpose: Studies have shown increased residential greenspace is associated with improved outcome following stroke. This study sought to determine if residential greenspace is an independent stroke risk factor.

Methods: A retrospective 1:4 matched case-control study involving 1174 stroke and 4696 control patients over a 3-year period from Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, was conducted. Greenspace was determined using normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for a 250-meter radius surrounding a subject’s residence. Introduction: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an emerging and rapidly evolving public health issue that has become globally widespread and an overwhelming pandemic. Clinical manifestations of the disease include asymptomatic carrier states, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and even multiorgan dysfunction. ABSTRACT

Background- Stroke rates and risk factors may be increasing in young adults aged 18-64, especially black individuals. We sought to identify whether young high risk stroke survivors could be found at community health centers.

Methods- This was a cross-sectional analysis of the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey from 2006-2011. We used chi-square analyses, t-tests, and proportions to compare and describe stroke survivor visits at community health centers and private offices.

Results- Young stroke survivor visits comprise 48% of stroke survivor visits at community health centers compared to 31% of stroke survivor visits at the private office setting. Among young …

Due to disparities in stroke risk among U.S. Hispanics, the need for culturally tailored, theory based effective health behavior change interventions persists. The purpose of this study was to examine self-determination theory (SDT) constructs related to cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in a predominantly Mexican American population. The Stroke Health and Risk Education (SHARE) project was a cluster-randomized, faith-based behavioral intervention trial that enrolled Mexican Americans (MAs) and non-Hispanic whites (NHWs) from Catholic Churches in Nueces County, Texas. Background: With over 40 years of demonstrated clinical efficacy, warfarin remains the world’s most used pharmaceutical to prevent ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, warfarin has many challenges. Thus, despite known effectiveness, warfarin is a leading cause to drug-induced morbidity and mortality. Over 50 different warfarin therapy protocols, including a number of pharmacogenomic-based (PG) protocols, with as many as 14 independent variables, have been developed to improve safety and efficacy, thereby reducing ischemic strokes and intracranial hemorrhages (ICH).
