Identification And Characterization Of The Tssk6 Activating Co-Chaperone (Tsacc) Gene In Skeletal Muscle, Tala Shourbagi Tello
Identification And Characterization Of The Tssk6 Activating Co-Chaperone (Tsacc) Gene In Skeletal Muscle, Tala Shourbagi Tello
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Skeletal muscle atrophy is defined as a decrease in muscle size and occurs due to disparate physiological conditions, including aging, immobilization, and corticosteroid exposure. TSSK6 activating co-chaperone (TSACC) was identified as a gene that is significantly upregulated in skeletal muscle in response to denervation. To confirm Tsacc expression in skeletal muscle, the Tsacc cDNA was cloned from cultured myoblast cells leading to the discovery of a novel alternative splice-variant that is 49 amino acids shorter than the known full-length transcript. Quantitative PCR (qPCR) confirmed that Tsacc is expressed in skeletal muscle with expression increasing as muscle cells undergo differentiation. Characterization …
Total Brachial Artery Reactivity And Incident Heart Failure And Heart Failure Sub-Types: Multi-Ethnic Study Of Atherosclerosis, Daniela Charry Segura
Total Brachial Artery Reactivity And Incident Heart Failure And Heart Failure Sub-Types: Multi-Ethnic Study Of Atherosclerosis, Daniela Charry Segura
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between total brachial artery reactivity (TBAR) and the cumulative risk of incident heart failure (HF), HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), and HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) in a community-based study. Methods: Sample included 5,499 participants (45-84 years of age) from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis who were free of cardiovascular disease at baseline. Brachial artery ultrasound was performed after five minutes of cuff occlusion at the right forearm. TBAR was calculated as the difference between maximum and minimum brachial artery diameters following cuff release, divided by the …
The Nutrition Care Process In Diabetes Medical Nutrition Therapy, Casey R. Colin
The Nutrition Care Process In Diabetes Medical Nutrition Therapy, Casey R. Colin
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine documentation quality and outcomes in a sample (n = 564 patient cases) of Diabetes Registry data from ANDHII, and to determine the validity and reliability of a revised NCP quality audit tool. RDNs have struggled to objectively demonstrate the value of MNT, which has limited MNT reimbursement and RDN recognition amongst allied healthcare providers. Development of a standardized process (the NCP), standardized language (the NCPT), and ANDHII have provided a means through which RDNs can improve MNT documentation and capture outcomes data, but gaps in adequate utilization exist. The most common …
Biomarkers Of Inflammation In Heart Failure Patients With Reduced And Preserved Ejection Fractions: Multi-Ethnic Study Of Atherosclerosis, Michelle Lynne Stone
Biomarkers Of Inflammation In Heart Failure Patients With Reduced And Preserved Ejection Fractions: Multi-Ethnic Study Of Atherosclerosis, Michelle Lynne Stone
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Purpose Examine the relationships between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and soluble tumor necrosis factor-α receptor-1 (sTNF-R1) and the cumulative risk of heart failure with reduced (HFrEF) and preserved (HFpEF) ejection fractions in a diverse, population-based sample. Methods Study sample included 6,814 adult (45-84 years of age) men and women who participated in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis and were free of cardiovascular disease at baseline. Cox regression was used to calculate the hazard ratios (HR) associated with elevated baseline hs-CRP (> 3-10 mg/L), IL-6 (> 75th percentile) and sTNF-R1 (> 75th percentile) and risk of overall …
Practitioners' Use Of Clinical Practice Guidelines: An Evidence-Based Approach, Sondra Michelle Phipps Santana
Practitioners' Use Of Clinical Practice Guidelines: An Evidence-Based Approach, Sondra Michelle Phipps Santana
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Pre-diabetes is a serious health problem in the United States. Distinguished by plasma glucose levels that are above the normal threshold, patients with pre-diabetes are 10 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Patients with pre-diabetes suffer the same complications as patients with diabetes including diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, and microalbuminuria.
There is considerable evidence to support the idea that early identification and aggressive treatment of pre-diabetes has the potential to delay disease progression. The American Diabetes Association’s clinical practice guideline recommends management of with lifestyle modification and metformin for patients who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. …
Dermoscopy: An Evidence-Based Approach For The Early Detection Of Melanoma, Angela Armstrong
Dermoscopy: An Evidence-Based Approach For The Early Detection Of Melanoma, Angela Armstrong
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a practice-based dermoscopy training program for dermatology healthcare providers in order to improve their technique of performing clinical skin exams for the early detection of melanomas.
The overall incidence of melanoma continues to rise. More than 75% of all skin cancer deaths are from melanoma. Advanced melanoma spreads to lymph nodes and internal organs and can result in death. One American dies from melanoma almost every hour (American Cancer Society [ACS], 2009). Early diagnosis and excision are essential to reduce morbidity and to improve patient survival.

Decision-Making In Ryan White Care Act Planning Bodies: An Analysis Of The Decision-Making Process Of The Joint Committee Of The Jacksonville Hiv/Aids Planning Council And Consortium, Andrea Clarkson Davis
Decision-Making In Ryan White Care Act Planning Bodies: An Analysis Of The Decision-Making Process Of The Joint Committee Of The Jacksonville Hiv/Aids Planning Council And Consortium, Andrea Clarkson Davis
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine which factors and the degree to which these factors influenced the Joint Committee when deciding how much money should be allocated to the different services funded by the Ryan White CARE Act. This study focused on the possible explicit and implicit factors influencing the decision-making process and interactions of the members of the HIV/AIDS Joint Prioritization & Allocation Committee in the decisions that were being made on behalf of the people who are infected and affected by this disease.
The methodology included a combination of quantitative and qualitative data, utilizing surveys, coding …
