Problem: Diabetic patients utilize treatments that require frequent monitoring and medication changes based on their blood sugar results. Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is more commonly used for diabetes management as time in range is becoming more prevalent to measure diabetes outcomes. Many diabetic patients find CGM use more accessible than finger sticks and glucometers. In contrast, others utilize the technology to closely monitor their blood sugars for interventions throughout the day. However, older adults have difficulty facilitating new CGM technology and may require further reinforcement using additional education methods such as teach-back.

Background: Internalized stigma is defined as individuals’ acceptance of negative stereotypes created by society and then their alienation from society. Psoriasis is a dermatological disease that affects the quality of life. The study evaluated the internalized stigma and quality of life of patients diagnosed with psoriasis.

Methods: This cross sectional study enrolled 222 patients. Data were collected using the internalized stigma scale and the dermatology life quality index questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Cronbach’s alpha.

Treatment for head and neck cancer often results in weight loss as a side effect. One option to mitigate this weight loss is placement of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube placement. Radiation oncologists at a academic tertiary medical center discuss the option of PEG placement during patient consultation.

A retrospective evaluation of weight loss in patients receiving radiation was conducted over a two-year period. The goal of this data collection was to create a standard for oncology consultations regarding PEG tube placement.

Background: The incidence of brain metastasis appears to be increasing, potentially due to advanced technology that aids early diagnosis. Patient-derived xenografts (PDX) have high translational value, as these models retain key functional characteristics of the patient tumor. PDX models are useful to understand the molecular basis of tumorigenesis and to identify new treatment targets. However, generating a first-line PDX model is challenging as engraftment failure is high. Serial transplanting tumor tissue via mouse-to-mouse propagation increases engraftment rates and decreases PDX development time. Management of heart failure is a significant financial challenge for the health care industry, costing approximately $33.2 billion annually. Common reasons for preventable heart failure readmissions include inadequate discharge education and lack of self-care and health management activities. Education at discharge is a vital component of improving heart failure outcomes. Following a review of the literature, high quality evidence supports that heart failure education should focus on medication adherence, sodium and fluid restriction, daily weights, activity tolerance, identification of deteriorating signs and symptoms of heart failure, and smoking cessation.
