Background: The prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) has rapidly increased in the past 4 decades and has been mostly observed in children. The prevalence of obesity has also significantly increased worldwide, suggesting that the two conditions may be associated.

Methods: This retrospective analytic study involved a cross-sectional design and used secondary data taken from the medical record of patients who visited the Pediatric Dermatology Subdivision at Dermatology and Venereology Polyclinic Sanglah General Hospital from January 2015 to December 2015. Several viruses or virus-like agents including members of adenoviridae, herpesviridae, slow virus (prion), and hepatitides, have been associated with obesity; meanwhile obese patients are shown to be more susceptible to viral infections such as during influenza and dengue epidemics. We examined the co-factorial role of viral infections, particularly of the persistent cases, in synergy with high-fat diet in induction of obesity. Objective: Obesity is rising in people with HIV (PLWH) and Hispanics. Both HIV and obesity are associated with cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. Our goal is to understand perceptions of body image and lifestyle in Hispanics with HIV to adapt interventions appropriately.

Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with 22 Hispanic PLWH and 6 providers. Purposive sampling selected patient participants across weights and genders. Interviews were coded and analyzed using grounded theory, comparing perspectives between patients with and without obesity, and patients and providers.

While variation according to health insurance has been reported in mixed sex bariatric surgery populations, whether or not clinical characteristics in the subset of moderately obese male surgical patients vary by insurance carrier is unknown. Regulation of lipid absorption by enterocytes can influence metabolic status in humans and contribute to obesity and related complications. The intracellular steps of chylomicron biogenesis and transport from the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) to the Golgi complex have been described, but the mechanisms for post-Golgi transport and secretion of chylomicrons have not been identified. Using a newly generated Dennd5b^−/− mouse, we demonstrate an essential role for this gene in Golgi to plasma membrane transport of chylomicron secretory vesicles.
