Clinical Effectiveness Evaluation Of Laser Therapy And Dry Needling In Treatment Of Patients With Myofascial Pain In Masseter Muscle, Diego A. Oliveira, Rafael De Almeida Spinelli Pinto, Larissa De Oliveira Reis, Isabela Maddalena Dias, Isabel Cristina Goncalves Leite, Fabiola Pessoa Pereira Leite
International Journal of Orofacial Myology and Myofunctional Therapy
Myofascial pain is considered a type of muscular TMD, being common in patients with musculoskeletal pain associated with active or latent trigger points. Among the therapeutic options, there are low-intensity laser therapy and dry needling. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of these two therapies in the masseter muscles of patients with myofascial pain. Ten patients diagnosed with myofascial pain, with or without limitation of mouth opening, were randomly divided into two groups for treatment with low intensity laser therapy (G1) (n = 5) or dry needling (G2) (n = 5). The pain symptomatology and the …

Juvenile Dermatomyositis - A Case Report With Review On Oral Manifestations And Oral Health Considerations, Pritesh Ruparelia, Oshin Verma, Vrutti Shah, Krishna Shah
International Journal of Orofacial Myology and Myofunctional Therapy
Juvenile Dermatomyositis is the most common inflammatory myositis in children, distinguished by proximal muscle weakness, a characteristic rash and Gottron’s papules. The oral lesions most commonly manifest as diffuse stomatitis and pharyngitis with halitosis. We report a case of an 8 year old male with proximal muscle weakness of all four limbs, rash, Gottron’s papules and oral manifestations. Oral health professionals must be aware of the extraoral and intraoral findings of this rare, but potentially life threatening autoimmune disease of childhood, for early diagnosis, treatment, prevention of long-term complications and to improve the prognosis and hence, the quality of life …
Evaluation Of Functional Therapy Vs Intermaxillary Fixation In Condylar Fracture Treatment, Al-Shaimaa Abd El Aziem, Nahed Adly, Youssef El-Mansi, Ghada Khalifa
Evaluation Of Functional Therapy Vs Intermaxillary Fixation In Condylar Fracture Treatment, Al-Shaimaa Abd El Aziem, Nahed Adly, Youssef El-Mansi, Ghada Khalifa
Al-Azhar Journal of Dentistry
Purpose: To compare the outcomes after rigid intermaxillary fixation (IMF) versus functional therapy (FT) in patients with mandibular condylar fractures (CFs). Patients and Methods: A prospective comparative study with 3 follow-ups (FU) at 1, 3 and 6 months was undertaken in 2 groups, which exclusively privileged either surgical or conservative treatment due to different therapeutic agendas. Patients from Group1 (GI) received IMF for 10 days, followed by physiotherapy, whereas those in Group2 (GII) had undergone FT for 21 days via guiding elastics. In both groups, all concomitant fractures (if present) were treated by open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). Patients …

Basics Of Musculoskeletal Health In Dentistry: An Overview, Drashti Shah, Ankit Arora, Padmaja Arora
Book Collection
This book is an overview of the basics of musculoskeletal health amongst dentists which is the most commonly targeted profession of musculoskeletal pain and its consequences. This book also covers the common areas of pain, aeitiolgy, the study stating specialty specific areas of pain due to repetitive work of dental specialties andalso mentions the measures of prevention and consequences if being neglected, i.e. in general stating importance of musculoskeletal health amongst dentists.
Exploring Student-Led Interprofessional Education Through A Community Service Project, Lindsay Ann Doerschuk
Exploring Student-Led Interprofessional Education Through A Community Service Project, Lindsay Ann Doerschuk
EWU Masters Thesis Collection
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to explore the effectiveness of a student-led interprofessional education (IPE) workshop in improving student attitudes and perceptions toward IPE. Students from four health science programs including Dental Hygiene, Communication Sciences and Disorders/Speech and Hearing, Health Services Administration and Occupational Therapy participated in a community service event. Students provided screenings to veteran patients including a health history intake, hearing test, and sleep screening while other students observed.
Methods: Students were asked to attend an orientation, the Vets Day IPE workshop, and a debrief session. This mixed methods approach study utilized the Readiness for Interprofessional …
Development Of Graphene Oxide/Silver Nanocomposite Coating On Niti Alloy For Biomedical Applications, Dinesh Rokaya
Development Of Graphene Oxide/Silver Nanocomposite Coating On Niti Alloy For Biomedical Applications, Dinesh Rokaya
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The study aimed to evaluate the surface, mechanical, and biological properties of graphene oxide/silver nanocomposite (GO/Ag) coated NiTi alloy. Substrates were coated using the electrophoretic deposition at 30 V for 1, 5, and 10 min, and were characterized by scanning electron microscope, Raman spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, surface profilometer, and atomic fluoroscope force microscopy (AFM). Hardness, modulus of elasticity, and friction were done and surface adhesion was measured from AFM. Biocompatibility testing was done on human gingival fibroblasts using 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16; One-way ANOVA with post hoc Scheffe Test (P = 0.05). …
Assessment Of Head Asymmetry In Prematurely Born Children During Early Childhood Using 3d Photography, Panagiotis Kyteas
Assessment Of Head Asymmetry In Prematurely Born Children During Early Childhood Using 3d Photography, Panagiotis Kyteas
All ETDs from UAB
The aim of this study is to assess the course of plagiocephaly during early childhood in preterm and fullterm children and determine any differences throughout the given timeframe between the two groups. Materials and Methods: 34 preterm and 34 fullterm children born in the Oulu University Hospital, Finland attended the clinical study at the age of 3 (T1), 6 (T2), (T3) months and 3 years (T4). At each visit, 3D images of the head were obtained using a 3dMD head 5-pod camera system (3dMD, Atlanta, GA). Nine outcome variables including 2D and 3D measurements were calculated. Results: At T1, 26.47% …

The Lasting Impact Of Intraprofessional Education Between Dentists And Dental Hygienists, Kimber Satter
EWU Masters Thesis Collection
Purpose: The Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE) program at the University of Washington (UW) allows first year dental students to take courses with Eastern Washington University dental hygiene (DH) students. This study was conducted to see if the RIDE program is effective as an Intraprofessional Education (IntraPE) program in improving dentists’ attitudes towards teamwork and understanding the roles and responsibilities of the DH.
Methods: UW School of Dentistry alumni from 2012-2017 were invited to participate in this study. Attitudes towards teamwork and roles and responsibilities were assessed using two online surveys: a demographic survey containing open-ended questions, and a …
