Relationship Between Number Of Mechanical Ventilation Days Prior To Ecmo Initiation And Outcomes In Covid-19 Patients, Brittany Bergman

DNP Projects

Background: Since the start of the pandemic, there has been over 16,000 COVID-19 positive patients placed on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Little is known about the effect of long mechanical ventilation prior to ECMO initiation. Purpose: The first purpose of this project is to evaluate whether a longer mechanical ventilator time (ten or more days) prior to ECMO initiation is associated with increased mortality and longer total lengths of time on ECMO in patients with COVID-19, as opposed to being on a ventilator for under ten days prior to being placed on ECMO. The second purpose is to increase provider …

Countering Moral Distress In Ecmo Nurses With Case-Review Debriefings, Sherry D. Griggs

DNP Projects

Abstract

Effectively addressing moral distress is crucial to the growth and health of the nursing profession, which is the cornerstone of quality and safety in healthcare.

Purpose: The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of case-review debriefings on moral distress of ECMO nurses.

Conceptual Framework: Analysis of Moral Distress Process was utilized. This framework addresses moral distress …

Health-Related Quality Of Life And Ptsd-Symptoms In Survivors Of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (Ecmo) Support, Jennifer Bauman Jan 2020

Health-Related Quality Of Life And Ptsd-Symptoms In Survivors Of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (Ecmo) Support, Jennifer Bauman

DNP Projects

Background: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) survivors have shown to have poor physical and mental health outcomes post decannulation and hospitalization; thus leading to an overall decreased quality of life. Identifying and managing the psychological components of care in this patient population can improve their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Purpose: To assess the incidence of impaired health related quality of life (HRQOL) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) like symptoms in survivors of ECMO; identify which constellation of patients (respiratory vs. cardiac) have poorer HRQOL outcomes post ECMO; and compare the tools used to measure post procedural outcomes in this patient …
