The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between perceived emotional intelligence and the reported use of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. We also investigated the possible effects of age on the aforementioned variables. The total sample consisted of 379 people (158 men, 220 women, 1 unreported). Across participants, 273 were young (20-39 years old) and 106 were middle-aged (40-65 years old). Prasugrel is a thienopyridine that was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in combination with aspirin for the reduction of thrombotic events as well as stent thrombosis in patients with ACS who undergo PCI. This retrospective study aims to assess the frequency of inappropriate use of prasugrel and to emphasize that prasugrel still needs more attention as inappropriate use may result in significant morbidity.

Systemic Lupus Erythematous(SLE) is a multisystem autoimmune disease. It has been identified as the underlying cause for death for an average 1,034 deaths from 2000 and 2014. Our cases highlight two rare but life threatening complications of SLE; Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) and Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) with mortality as high as 50-90%. Both cases presenting with respiratory symptoms, required meticulous monitoring in ICU and initially treated with broad spectrum antibiotics However, unlike pneumonia these patients required immunosuppressive and plasmapheresis leading to clinical improvement.

This report attempts to frame the debate about clinical administration of sodium bicarbonate in the setting of lactic acidosis in terms of simple questions. Specifically, we address why we develop lactic acidosis in some circumstances, how acute lactic acidosis impairs cardiovascular function and why sodium bicarbonate may have deleterious effects which limit its utility. We also attempt to explore treatment alternatives to sodium bicarbonate.

Objective

There is no widely accepted standard definition for Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP). The reliability of the current definitions in use remains controversial. Our objective was to assess the reliability of six commonly used VAP definitions: The Loose, The Rigorous, The Modified Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score (CPIS), The Canadian Critical Care Trials Group (CCCTG), The International Sepsis Forum Consensus (ISFC) and The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
