The dangers of marijuana use are well documented across most body systems. We report a 27-year-old male who ingested marijuana and then experienced an ST-elevation myocardial infarction, subsequent cerebrovascular accident, and death within the span of a week. Toxicology reports were positive for THC only, echocardiography revealed diffuse hypokinesis with an ejection fraction estimated at 15-20%, and troponins peaked at greater than 270,000 pg/mL. Due to decreased Glasgow Coma Score and hemodynamic instability, the patient was not taken for cardiac catheterization, but was subsequently sedated, intubated, and placed on pressor support in the ICU. Our project focused on assisting a nonprofit organization who exists to serve the most vulnerable of families in the Seattle area. They offer a number of programs including a mobile outreach team that seeks to bring resources to families, a program for families which provides the opportunity for new mothers to bond with their newborn, and another program which assists families with medically fragile children to find healthcare resources, and more. Up to one in four patients undergoing prolonged opioid therapy in a primary care setting battle opioid addiction. In 2020, the CDC found that more than 16,000 deaths involving prescription opioids (limited to natural and semi-synthetic opioids and methadone) had occurred, which is equivalent to about 45 deaths per day. Buprenorphine, a novel long-acting analgesic, was developed with the intention of two purposes: analgesia and opioid use disorder. Regarding its pharmacodynamics, it is a partial agonist at mu receptors, an inverse agonist at kappa receptors, and an antagonist at delta receptors. For the purpose of analgesia, three formulations of buprenorphine were developed: IV/IM injectable formulation (Buprenex®), transdermal patch formulation (Butrans®), and buccal film formulation (Belbuca®). Related to opioid dependence, the formulations developed were subcutaneous extended release (Sublocade®), subdermal implant (Probuphine®), and sublingual tablets (Subutex®). Dextromethorphan (3-methoxy-N-methylmorphinan), also known as “DXM,” is a synthetically produced drug available in many over-the- counter (OTC) cough and cold medications as a centrally acting cough suppressant that binds to NMDA receptors. In a 2006 national survey of 50,000 students, 4, 5, and 7% of 8, 10, and 12th graders reported DXM abuse in the past year. In high doses, DXM can cause euphoria, hallucinations, dissociations, and distortion of cognition and perception. DXM abuse is also known as “Robotripping,” “Robodosing,” “Dexing,” “Tussin,” or “Triple Cs” because Robitussin® and Coricidin® Cough and Cold are most frequently abused. DXM has replaced codeine …

Introduction: Opioid medications have been increasingly prescribed in recent years, particularly to treat individuals with chronic pain. In the U.S., opioid abuse has been declared an epidemic by the Department of Health and Human Services as the number of opioid-related overdoses in 2010 exceeded 16000 and alarmingly continued to rise 15% from 2015 to 2016. Due to opioid dependence and abuse, opioids are a gateway to subsequent drug addiction.
