Synthesis Of Trifluoromethyl Ketones By (Diethylamino) Sulfur Trifluoride (Dast)-Mediated Nucleophilic Trifluoromethylation Of Benzoic Acids, Michael A. Vescio

Honors College Theses

Within the past few decades, the presence of fluorine containing

organic molecules has increased significantly. Many of the

current industrial production methods are not cost-effective,

practical, or inherently safe. This work describes a new methodology

for the synthesis of trifluoromethyl ketones. Our new method involves

the use of benzoic acid and trifluoromethyl trimethylsilane (TMSCF3) as starting

materials along with diethylamino sulfur trifluoride (DAST) as a reagent

to obtain moderate to good yields of expected products in a short

reaction times.

The Kinetics And Cellular Imaging Of Multi-Color Fluorescent And Chemiluminescent Compounds, Bo Li Aug 2022

The Kinetics And Cellular Imaging Of Multi-Color Fluorescent And Chemiluminescent Compounds, Bo Li

Chemistry Theses and Dissertations

A three-dimensional display is a useful method which can provide spatially accurate representations of high-resolution images with a 360° view. Therefore, it has potential to be applied widely in the medical area, entertainment industry and for military applications. According to the first-generation 3D digital light photoactivatable dye display (3D Light PAD), N-phenyl spirolactam rhodamine B was used as photoactivatable compound that could be switched from non-fluorescent to fluorescent using ultraviolet light. However, the detailed mechanism, how other rhodamine derivatives would perform in 3D Light PAD, and what other factors in this system could improve the imaging quality remained unclear. …

This study introduces a universal correlation based on the modified version of the Arrhenius equation to estimate the solubility of anti-cancer drugs in supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2). A combination of an Arrhenius-shape term and a departure function was proposed to estimate the solubility of anti-cancer drugs in supercritical CO2. This modified Arrhenius correlation predicts the solubility of anti-cancer drugs in supercritical CO2 from pressure, temperature, and carbon dioxide density. The pre-exponential of the Arrhenius linearly relates to the temperature and carbon dioxide density, and its exponential term is an inverse function of pressure. Moreover, the departure function linearly correlates with …

The Role Of Age Ligand And Rap1a In Myofibroblast Signaling Cascade In Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus-Induced Cardiomyopathic Conditions, Camilla Puglia May 2022

The Role Of Age Ligand And Rap1a In Myofibroblast Signaling Cascade In Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus-Induced Cardiomyopathic Conditions, Camilla Puglia

Honors Theses

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, taking more than 90,000 lives annually. Type 2 diabetes mellitus-induced cardiac fibrosis is a common condition seen in diabetic patients. The AGE/RAGE signaling cascade has been strongly associated with this supposed cardiac fibrosis along with hyperactive myofibroblasts which excessively remodel extracellular matrix tissue, leading to damaged and enlarged heart muscle tissue. In diabetic patients, Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) are produced in abundance and accumulate in the extracellular matrix of heart tissue. To investigate the role of of the AGE ligand on fibroblast behavior, increasing amounts of …
