Data Driven Classification Of Opioid Patients Using Machine Learning - An Investigation, Saddam Al Amin, Md Saddam Hossain Mukta, Md Sezan Mahmud Saikat, Md Ismail Hossain, Md Adnanul Islam, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Sami Azam

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The opioid crisis has led to an increased number of drug overdoses in recent years. Several approaches have been established to predict opioid prescription by health practitioners. However, due to the complex nature of the problem, the accuracy of such methods is not yet satisfactory. Dependable and reliable classification of opioid dependent patients from well-grounded data sources is essential. Majority of the previous studies do not focus on the users’ mental health association for opioid intake classification. These studies do not also employ the latest deep learning based techniques such as attention and knowledge distillation mechanism to find better insights. …

Developing An Alcohol And Other Drug Serious Game For Adolescents: Considerations For Improving Student Engagement, Joanna Nicholas, Brennen Mills, Sara Hansen, Stephen J. Bright, Heather Boyd, Luke Brook, Jess Watson, Luke Hopper Oct 2022

Developing An Alcohol And Other Drug Serious Game For Adolescents: Considerations For Improving Student Engagement, Joanna Nicholas, Brennen Mills, Sara Hansen, Stephen J. Bright, Heather Boyd, Luke Brook, Jess Watson, Luke Hopper

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Objectives: To explore perceptions of alcohol and other drug (AOD) education and digital game design preferences among Australian adolescents with the goal of identifying key factors to promote engagement in an AOD serious game for Australian secondary school students. Methods: Semi-structured focus groups were conducted with 36 adolescents aged between 13 and 18 years. Qualitative data was analysed using thematic analysis. Results: Participants described heightened engagement with AOD education that incorporated relatable and relevant real-life stories and interactive discussions. They also expressed a desire for learning to focus on practical strategies to reduce AOD harm and overcome social pressure to …

State Trends Of Cannabis Liberalization As A Causal Driver Of Increasing Testicular Cancer Rates Across The Usa, Albert Stuart Reece, Gary Kenneth Hulse Oct 2022

State Trends Of Cannabis Liberalization As A Causal Driver Of Increasing Testicular Cancer Rates Across The Usa, Albert Stuart Reece, Gary Kenneth Hulse

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background:

The cause of the worldwide doubling-tripling of testicular cancer rates (TCRs) in recent decades is unknown. Previous cohort studies associated cannabis use with TCR including dose–response relationships but the contribution of cannabis to TCRs at the population level is unknown. This relationship was tested by analyzing annual trends across US states and formally assessed causality. Four US datasets were linked at state level: age-adjusted TCRs from Centers for Disease Control Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database; drug use data from annual National Survey of Drug Use and Health including 74.1 % response rate; ethnicity and median household income data …

Activity Of Newest Generation Β-Lactam/Β-Lactamase Inhibitor Combination Therapies Against Multidrug Resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Robbie R. Haines, Papanin Putsathit, Katherine A. Hammer, Anna S. Tai Jan 2022

Activity Of Newest Generation Β-Lactam/Β-Lactamase Inhibitor Combination Therapies Against Multidrug Resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Robbie R. Haines, Papanin Putsathit, Katherine A. Hammer, Anna S. Tai

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Multidrug resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa accounts for 35 % of all P. aeruginosa isolated from respiratory samples of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). The usefulness of β-lactam antibiotics for treating CF, such as carbapenems and later generation cephalosporins, is limited by the development of antibacterial resistance. A proven treatment approach is the combination of a β-lactam antibiotic with a β-lactamase inhibitor. New β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations are available, but data are lacking regarding the susceptibility of MDR CF-associated P. aeruginosa (CFPA) to these new combination therapies. In this study we determined MIC values for three new combinations; imipenem-relebactam (I-R), ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA), …
