Mental health is an often-overlooked aspect of overall health and wellness (well-being). Mental illness is increasingly common with 1 in 5 American adults experiencing it annually, and 1 in 20 suffering from a serious mental illness each year [1]. Treatment rates for mental illness are lower in men (37.4%) compared to women (51.2%) [1]. Globally, treatment rates are similar with an estimated cost to the global economy of $1 trillion annually, yet less than 2% of government health expenditure is for mental health worldwide [2]. OBJECTIVES: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome represents a family of heritable connective tissue disorders that include joint hypermobility, tissue fragility, and skin hyperextensibility. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome presents with clinical sequela across multiple body systems that require multidisciplinary care. Little is known about adolescents with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome who are transgender and gender diverse. To date, there have been no reports of transgender and gender diverse youth in pediatric patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. The objective of this study was to characterize transgender and gender diverse adolescents with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome seen in a pediatric multidisciplinary specialty clinic.

There has been a steady rise in the number of assaults and workplace violence reported from bedside staff at this hospital. The leadership of the organization formed a work group to help combat the workplace violence and staff assaults that were occurring. Moral Injury (MI) was defined by Jonathan Shay in 1994 as committing acts that betray one’s moral compass in high-stakes situations, while under the authority of another, that severely affect one’s well-being. MI was measured solely in the military prior to the COVID pandemic.

Eating disorders (EDs) have detrimental effects on an individual’s physical and mental health, along with significant interpersonal, social and economic effects. Furthermore, men who are suffering with an ED face unique challenges with this. Men suffering with EDs have historically received little attention within ED research, diagnosis and intervention. The effects of cannabis use on the brain, mind, and body have been studied for decades. The developing brain, particularly the adolescent and young adult brain, undergoes critical development that makes it especially susceptible to the effects of cannabis use. Among the adverse effects of cannabis use in adolescence and young adulthood, psychosis and psychotic disorders (e.g., schizophrenia) have been examined. The association of cannabis use with schizophrenia was first elucidated in a Swedish study of army conscripts. Background: Smokeless tobacco (ST) is consumed globally by more than 350 million people, with approximately 85% of all users based in South and Southeast Asia. In this region, ST products are cheap and easily accessible. Evidence-based interventions to people quit ST use are lacking. This study aims to test the feasibility of conducting a future definitive trial of ST cessation, using a culturally adapted behavioural intervention, and/or nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in three South Asian countries.

Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a movement disorder associated with dopamine receptor blocking medications. Recommended treatments for TD include discontinuing the causative agent, adding vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitors, or adding vitamin B6. We present a 66-year-old Caucasian male with bipolar I disorder who developed TD while on lithium and quetiapine having been euthymic on this regimen for three years. He was initially treated with 1200 mg B6 daily. This failed to improve his TD and was associated with a depressive episode. Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have major and long-lasting impacts on health care delivery and mental health. As health care shifted to telehealth, legislation was adjusted to expand telehealth allowances, creating a unique opportunity to elucidate outcomes. The aim of this study was to assess long-term patient and clinician satisfaction and outcomes with virtual behavioral health.

Methods: Data were obtained over 16 months from surveys to patients and clinicians receiving/providing virtual treatment. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the gold standard in the treatment of anxiety and depression (Hoying et al., 2020; Melnyk et al., 2015; Melnyk et al., 2020). Background:

Patient care delivered in hospitals is fast-paced, complex, and ever-changing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses, prescribers, and chaplains provided front-line, whole-person care in hospital settings to patients who had decreased or no access to visitors without the use of technology while facing acute illness and difficult prognoses. During the pandemic, nurses and physicians reported increased fatigue and stress in scientific literature. Poor emotional well-being may lead to decreased compassion satisfaction. Increased compassion satisfaction may mitigate adverse occupational and patient-centered outcomes, support fewer missed days at work, lead to higher staff satisfaction, and raise patient satisfaction scores. Background:

Hospital chaplains are trained to provide spiritual support to inpatients, family members, and support persons across the continuum of care. Patients receiving a chaplain visit during their hospital stay report higher satisfaction, quality of life, and spiritual well-being. Chaplain consultation during hospitalization is related to higher rates of hospice enrollment and lower rates of in-hospital deaths. Additionally, evidence suggests nurses who are employed in hospitals with staff chaplains report lower stress and compassion fatigue based on frequency of interactions with chaplains during worked shifts. Occupational burnout, a symptom of chronic work-related stress, can lead to negative health outcomes such as anxiety, depression, diabetes, insomnia, and increased risk for cardiovascular disease. Burnout also augments negative occupational risks such as increased sick days, decreased productivity, disability claims, and turnover.
