Perinatal phencyclidine (PCP) treatment leads to neuronal damage and causes long-term behavioural alterations in rodents. PCP-treated rats displayed hyperactivity in the holeboard and forced swim tests. These persistent behavioural changes are relevant to the study of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia.
