Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A 3-year-old female dog was referred to the clinics of İstanbul University with the complaint of abdominal distention. On the basis of the clinical findings and ultrasonography, a mass was detected in the left ovary. An ovariohysterectomy was performed. Grossly, the mass, with dimensions of 15 × 11 × 8 cm, weighed 1.2 kg and contained hairs, cysts, fat, bone, and cartilage on the cut surface. Histology revealed the occurrence of well-differentiated components of all 3 germ layers and the mass was diagnosed as a benign mature cystic teratoma.

Urinary Diversion Via Preputial Urethrostomy With Bilateral Pubic-Ischial Osteotomy In A Dog, Masaaki Katayama, Yasuhiko Okamura, Hiroaki Kamishina, Yuji Uzuka Jan 2012

Urinary Diversion Via Preputial Urethrostomy With Bilateral Pubic-Ischial Osteotomy In A Dog, Masaaki Katayama, Yasuhiko Okamura, Hiroaki Kamishina, Yuji Uzuka

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A 4-year-old, 8.7-kg intact male Pekingese dog was presented with stricture of the urethral opening after a perineal urethrostomy revision surgery. Total penile amputation and preputial urethrostomy with bilateral pubic-ischial osteotomy were performed. After surgery, the dog was able to urinate through the natural preputial orifice, avoiding urine scalding associated with urethral anastomosis to the adjacent skin. Nine months after surgery, no major complications were noted with the exception of a small amount of urine dribbling after urination.

Vaginal Prolapse Related To Ovarian Granulosa Cell Tumor In An Anatolian Shepherd., Deni̇z Nak, Ayli̇n Alasonyalilar Demi̇rer, Bi̇lgi̇ner Tuna, Yavuz Nak, Musa Özgür Özyi̇ği̇t

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A 4-year old, primiparous, female Anatolian Shepherd dog was presented for evaluation of type II vaginal prolapse with alopecia of the left perineal skin. Hematological analyses demonstrated leukocytosis and thrombocytopenia. Estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) levels were 156 pg/mL and 2.3 ng/mL, respectively. The vaginal smear was predominantly (at least 80%) made up of anuclear superficial cells. An abdominal ultrasonography revealed a heterogeneous multicystic mass with anechoic areas adjacent to the caudal pole of the left kidney. An ovariohysterectomy was performed. Ten days after the surgery, the prolapsed vagina was completely regressed. A histopathological examination of the ovarian mass demonstrated …

A Study On Paranal Sinus Micromorphometrical Parameters In Dogs Of Different Ages, Ivaylo Stefanov Jan 2012

A Study On Paranal Sinus Micromorphometrical Parameters In Dogs Of Different Ages, Ivaylo Stefanov

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study determines the micromorphometric parameters of the main structural elements of the paranal sinus in male (n = 20) and female (n = 8) mongrel dogs of different ages. Pieces of about 1 cm3 were obtained from different parts of the organ and put in 10% neutral formalin. The tissue samples were further used for the preparation of paraffin sections that were stained with hematoxylin-eosin for light microscopy measurements. In the sinus wall, the thickness of the epithelium was measured, as was that of the subepithelial and subglandular connective tissue layers, the zona with the apocrine glands, and the …

Clinical Evaluation Of The Pocket Technique For Replacement Of Prolapsed Gland Of The Third Eyelid In Dogs, Mohammad Mehdi Dehghan, Mir Sepehr Pedram, Omid Azari, Hossein Kazemi Mehrjerdi, Elnaz Azad Jan 2012

Clinical Evaluation Of The Pocket Technique For Replacement Of Prolapsed Gland Of The Third Eyelid In Dogs, Mohammad Mehdi Dehghan, Mir Sepehr Pedram, Omid Azari, Hossein Kazemi Mehrjerdi, Elnaz Azad

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome and complications of the pocket technique in the repositioning of the prolapsed third eyelid gland in dogs. From 28 dogs, 38 eyes with protrusion of the third eyelid gland were treated using the pocket technique. Of the dogs, 22 (79%) were less than 1 year of age when the prolapse was first noted by the owner. Protrusion of the glands in both eyes was found in 10 of the dogs (36%). The success rate of surgical replacement was 97% (37 eyes). The complication rate was 13.15%. The pocket technique …

The Effects Of Prestorage Leukoreduction And Storage Duration On The In Vitro Quality Of Canine Packed Red Blood Cells, Eli̇f Ergül Eki̇z, Murat Arslan, İbrahi̇m Akyazi, Evren Eraslan Uygur, Güldal İnal Gülteki̇n, Mukaddes Özcan Jan 2012

The Effects Of Prestorage Leukoreduction And Storage Duration On The In Vitro Quality Of Canine Packed Red Blood Cells, Eli̇f Ergül Eki̇z, Murat Arslan, İbrahi̇m Akyazi, Evren Eraslan Uygur, Güldal İnal Gülteki̇n, Mukaddes Özcan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effects of prestorage leukoreduction and storage duration on the in vitro quality parameters of canine packed red blood cells (pRBCs) stored in saline-adenine-glucose-mannitol (SAGM) were investigated. Hematological, biochemical, and morphological changes in filtered and unfiltered pRBCs were determined each week during 42 days of storage. All of the parameters changed significantly during storage. The effects of leukoreduction on leukocyte and erythrocyte count, packed cell volume, hemoglobin content, and erythrocyte morphology were significant. While supernatant K increased during storage, glucose, Cl, and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) concentrations decreased. Filtered pRBCs had higher 2,3-DPG levels throughout storage than their unfiltered counterparts. It was …
