This study was carried out to determine the effect of single dose cadmium chloride (CdCl_2) administration on the possible development of oxidative stress by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the liver, kidney and blood serum of male and female rats. For this purpose 80 animals (14-16 weeks old) were initially divided into two 2 groups according to sex, each containing 40 rats. Then both were divided into 5 equal treatment groups [0 (control) 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 mg/kg CdCl_2 body weight by subcutanous injection, respectively]. The blood serum and tissues of the liver and kidney were collected after 24 …

The aim of this study was to investigate whether vitamin E (VitE) and selenium (Se) or VitE plus Se have any the protective and/or augmented effects on cypermethrin (CYP)-induced oxidative stress in liver, brain, kidney and blood in rats. Rats were treated orally with daily 50 mg/kg (~ 1/4 ED50) of CYP in corn oil for five days after administrations of VitE (100 mg/kg sc.), Se (0.1 mg/kg, sc.) and VitE plus Se for three days. Malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT) activities were measured in tissues and blood samples. MDA concentrations in all tissues except plasma, …

Sixty 1-day-old male Ross-PM3 broiler chickens were used in this study. The chickens were divided into 5 groups, including one control and 4 experimental. The control group was fed commercial broiler feed free from aflatoxin (AF), whereas the experimental groups, namely, groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 were given feed containing, respectively, 0.05 ppm, 0.1 ppm, 0.5 ppm and 1.0 ppm of AF (approximately, 81.30% AF B_{1}, 10.40% AF B_{2}, 5.75% AF G_{1} and 2.55% AF G_{2}) for 45 days. Blood samples were collected on days 15, 30 and 45 of the study. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase …
